Forums - Movies & TV - That new Cloverfield movie was sooo bad [Spoiler thread]

I was disappointing as well. It had a forgettable cast that I literally didn't care about any of them. So much random shit in the movie I didn't understand. I'm all for movies that make you think and don't give you direct answers, but this was messy. I cared more about the guy on Earth than anyone else.

Around the Network

The first was good but way WAY too shaky, I know they wanted to give the feel that it's some amateur shooting the video during the whole movie but still it was almost sickeningly too shaky...
The second movie I don't know as I haven't seen it yet, from what I heard it's about some guy kidnapping other people or something? Which I don't mind if that was the main theme of the movie but Cloverfield is about huge monsters so Cloverfield 2 makes as much sense as say, a Superman movie where the issue is politics and Superman is not really part of the story. I don't mind a movie on politics but if the title of the movie is Superman I wanna see Superman and not some political movie.

Now the third movie is there so yeah I'll check it out maybe but I won't keep high expectations I guess.

I like it but a lot of stuff made zero sense, like the ship turning evil on that 1 guy, also what's up with the Chinese pandering going on in movies now it's getting annoying

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

My guess is, at one time, the movie was supposed to be a theatrical release, so they try to maximize the international box office by appealing to China which is the biggest foreign market for Hollywood movies. That's why more blockbusters have been trying to shoehorn in Chinese actors and some big US movies are co-produced by Chinese companies themselves.

I liked Jensen and her struggle, she was actually far more interesting and tragic than Hamilton.

I'd say this movie reminds me of Black Mirror in that it isn't as much science fiction, but a negative interpretation of technology and its affect on society. You have to suspend disbelief a lot, I mean "We ran out of energy"? If fossil fuels were running out, we'd know it and prices would spike causing a flood of investment in solar, wind, geothermal, and hyrdo or tidal energy projects. If you can get past these issues I think it was fine, liked it more than Cloverfield, less than 10 Cloverfield Lane.

You should definitely check out 10 Cloverfield Lane as well, that movie is fantastic. I think it's on Netflix now as well? Though i'm not sure, might depend on the area you live in since some things differ on Netflix depending on that.

1. It is a direct to Netflix movie.
2. Yes, it would have flopped in theaters so straight to Netflix was a good decision.
3. It does create a really interesting backstory to the Cloverfield universe. Something that can spawn a large number of interesting stories. I could see this turning into a series of sorts.
4. It had good, funny, and cringe-worthy moments. All in all, I enjoyed it but glad I didn't buy movie tickets to watch it. I think I enjoy it more because I like the intent behind the Cloverfield universe, which was not to just make another Kaiju film.

Agreed, I love the previous Cloverfield films (specially 10 Cloverfield Lane), but this one looked like a Z movie at times. Cringe-worthy dialogue, characters were not likable at all, it was just a clichéfest... It's a shame, they really had a stellar cast and... well, the concept of the higgs boson and the alternate dimensions could be interesting. But it was just shadowed by a collecton of cringey and cliché moments.

I really must disagree with people who says it didn't make sense though. It made perfectly sense, that's not what I dislike about the movie. They clearly stated that things will go out of control from that event, so "out of control" means "weird shit" xD. I don't think there's a need for an explanation in this case.

What’s going on with Netflix? They were putting out some amazing movies/ shoes for a while, but lately most of their stuff has been trash. What gives?
