Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Puyo Puyo Tetris almost sold 1 million on Switch

The Switch is going to be the first Nintendo platform since the SNES where developers will not be able to use the "people only buy Nintendo games" excuse if their game sells like shit.

Probably various regions across the globe

I was thinking that the retail sales for the game in US+Japan < 400k combined, thanks to what we know from NPD and some third-party numbers in Japan that was posted a while ago.

I just find it hard to believe that digital sales and retail sales for Europe+RoW would tip the scales that heavily, though it is plausible.

It's very possible as the Switch lends itself to digital very well once you have a micro SD card which a number of people have due to other devices, Another thing is in places like here in London in the UK for example many retail shops have shut down reducing their numbers meaning people as result either order off online or buy digital.

Congratulations!I dont think the game was ever that popular, and I have the impression that this game never managed to sell one million in the other platforms. This game probably got a second life on Switch and really payed off Sega bringing something over for the system closer to launch.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Puyo Puyo Tetris has been on sale in the eShop multiple times. It's also beneficial that this happened during the console's first year because that meant that the number of games with discounts was rather small for most of the year and anything that went on sale drew more attention. This is why so many people seem to own Snake Pass.

Puyo Puyo Tetris also has a demo, so people already knew what they were buying.

Oh, that explains the digital side of the argument. Exactly how steep were the discounts for the game?

Honestly tho, a few dialogues of this game is kind of hilarious.

It helps when Nintendo supports third parties properly. Which they failed to do on the snes,  64, GC,  and Wii. The Wii U is where they started but it was too late. The Switch is a new beginning.

What? Third parties did well on the SNES.

I'm so glad all of these games are doing well on the Switch. It's becoming harder and harder for 3rd parties to ignore it.
