Forums - PC Discussion - Help! Random MS folders on desktop can't delete! [SOLVED]

This isn't a virus I don't think and I have heard of MS office sometimes doing this. I can't delete these folders on my desktop. I googled it and said can be fixed in a regedit but I can't find the reg name to delete. What I find on google is to delete these branches.  Yes, I have a run a malware/virus scan. I can't move them nor delete them. Hoping someone knows a simple fix.

I do not see these branches. Do you?

Do you have admin privileges and have you checked your task manager in "process" to see if any of your apps/programs are using files from the said folder your trying to delete ?

I do have admin access but don't see anything called my documents in process.

could try that, basically use task manager to kill all the tasks you can including anything to do with office if that's where these have come from, then run the command under administrator to take full control of all folders on the desktop and delete them.

However.... I would not actually advise doing that at all, I would suggest putting your desktop to a normal size and ignoring the folders existence until you actually figure out what program has made them, it's very likely if they're protected system files and backups (which is what they look like) then some thing like system restore or indeed a backup part of office has generated the folders there in error but would need them to remain there in order to work correctly, if they're not in the way (and they shouldn't be if they weren't scaled to such a huge amount) you would really be better off to leave them be.

starting in safe mode would probably be best actually if you were completely determined to delete them... but as I posted above, I would not advise it as you don't know what program has created them and might/will fail without them.

I never use office so if there is a way to remove them and never have to use MS office that would be great. I also never have icons on my desktop for the past decade so it bothers me to have them there.

I fixed it I think. I restarted explorer and it went away. Wierd.

Then it's probably because the explorer was using the files you were trying to delete ...

Too much porn

That is one ugly looking desktop wtf did you do to it lol
