Forums - Nintendo Discussion - NPD sales: Switch (2018) VS Wii (2008)

Switch sales in USA in 2018?

4 million or less 6 8.00%

4-5 million 4 5.33%

5-6 million 14 18.67%

6-7 million 16 21.33%

7-8 million 11 14.67%

8-9 million 7 9.33%

9-10 million 7 9.33%

over 10 million 10 13.33%

Total:75

In some days, January NPD numbers will be out for subscribers, and we could hear something about Switch sales in January. We should get some estimates anyway, so i decided to make this thread.

Wii VS Switch sales during the second year. Now, this is a battle pretty hard for Switch... Wii 2008 remain the biggest year ever for a home console in the USA, and the second overall (The first is DS in 2009 with over 11 million sold).

That said, even if right now doesn't looks like Switch is gonna win (and to be honest i would say chance are close to impossible) for fun, i'll still do this comparation. There's Swicth (2018) sales VS Wii (2008) sales:

NPD
January 270,000 274,000
February 282,000 432,000
March 308,000 721,000
April 171,000 714,000
May 167,000 675,000
June 323,000 667,000
July 262,000 555,000
August 203,000 453,000
September 259,000 667,000
October 255,000 803,000
November   2,040,000
December   2,150,000
 Total   10,151,000

Switch has good shot at winning February, too.

The 1-2 punch of Smash in March and MK in April for Wii will make it impossible for Switch to compete later on in the year.

Maybe in August, where the Wii "only" reached 453k. If it beats the Wii in any of the other months, then we know for sure Switch is gonna be a sales behemoth

Yeah its not getting close.

Im thinking 6-7 million for the year

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Shouldn't the comparison be 2007?

DON'T WIN ME CHIBI BUDDY DON'T WIN ME.

ANIMAL CROSSING NEW LEAF FRIEND CODE:- 5129 1175 1029. MESSAGE ME.
ANDY MURRAY:- GRAND SLAM WINNER!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

I had to vote 5-6 million, I can't see the switch selling anymore than that. Maybe if their Second half of the year games are great than it might be able to.

No. Switch was available for 10 of the 12 months in 2017 launch month easily making up for the lack of Jan/Feb.

2007 vs 2017

2008 vs 2018

Thats the best comparison we can make for Wii vs Switch.

While i don't see Switch winning, i'm sure results will be closer than what people expect.

I vote for the 7-8 million range.

2008 Wii was ridiculous. I don't think we see anything like it ever again. Switch will do 200-300k a month

Won't happen in the first 6 month period for sure but we'll see what is announced for the rest of the year.
