Hardware revenue doesn't mean the company profits.

Doesn't matter, point is that Sony will be happy. :D

Sony profits bigger then Nintendos so obviously they are happier.

We only know who came first for sales and revenue. Ninty and Sony..

Yeah. The NPD thread title had the Switch as #1. I was worried I missed something in those many posts in the thread

It also says in the thread that sony were number 1 for revenue. Both companies financials also show Sony is making more money. Obviously we can say who is the happiest.

And do you have any proof that they made more profit with PS4 hardware in January than Nintendo made with Switch hardware? Point that Sony made more revenue than Nintendo in January in hardware sales doesn't mean they made more profit also, especially when Nintendo sold more consoles.

So Amazon is right again.

Amazon predicted the winner right but the rang gap between both consoles is completely wrong when you compare it with npds sales data. Both consoles sold basically the same and Amazon rankings are

NSW-13, 17

PS4-34, 53, 63

It never has and it never will. Why are we still having this discussion after all these years? Amazon only predicts the positions, not the sales ratios.

It's not going on for years. PS4 and Xbone are both home consoles and share basically the same market and have the same age demographic. That indicatess that the percentage of online shoppers on amazon are equal.

The switch on the other hand is not a classic home console, beeing a hybrid console raises the question if it's still comparable with the traditional home consoles on amazon. Maybe the percentage of online buyers is higher.

The first month of switch sales were determined by stock and not demand. Now after Christmas sales is the first period to see if amazon is really a good indicator. It will be interesting to see if amazon stays a good indicator when the rang gap between both systems is not 20 places. It could be that ps4 will win those month were the gap is < 10. That's at least what I would guess. I could be completely wrong but why not discuss it.

A simple breakdown:

Switch sold most units @ 299$
PS4 had the most revenue @ 299, 399 and a 449 SKUs

3% difference in revenue between #1 and #3 We know PS4 is first, Switch could be anywhere from the slimmest of margins up to 3% away from that.

I think there's a good chance it's quite a bit more than 10-20k units (sounds like wishful thinking from some) difference between the PS4 and Switch unless the Pro and MH bundle tanked, which we know they didnt.

Yeah, based on this :

If we assume PS4 pro represents 30% of PS4 total sales and that MH bundle sold as much as non bundled Pro :

Switch revenue per unit is 299$. PS4 revenue per unit is 299*0.7 + 449*0.15 + 399*0.15 = 336.5$. That would be 11% difference in revenue per unit.

That would mean the switch sold around 9-10% more units this month (25/30k units)

A lot of assumptions though, could be more could be less. The higher the ratio Pro/Slim is the higher the switch lead is (same with the ratio MH Bundle/Regular Pro).

Thank you for saving me the trouble of doing this.

Bayonetta 2 out of stock on Amazon.com and Amazon.fr and won't be in stock until the 1st (or 4th?). Hopefully it's selling well, I guess the Bayonetta 2 shipment for France is 50k total, so I guess they might have stock issues over there.

All of us who said amazon is switch biased have been proven right. It suggested the gap would be far bigger.

Anyway ps4 brought in the most revenue, sony will be happy.

One more time, it suggested nothing because Amazon only gives rankings but not quantities.

January Amazon rankings
NSW-13, 17
PS4-34, 53, 63
XBO-52, 68, 85

13 & 17 could be 8000 & 7000 units for a total of 15,000

34, 53 & 63 could be 5500, 4500 & 2500 for a total of 12,500

52, 68 & 85 could be 4700, 2300 & 2000 for a total of 9000.

Now lets say NPD figures for January are

NSW-300k
PS4-250k
XBO-180k

That would make the Amazon % of NPD totals the same for each console which would result in no bias.

This is only something to consider. You don't need to keep repeating it like it totally disproves the bias theory.

It also works the other way. A lot of Nintendo fans in here are saying the Switch is destroying PS4 or dominating. I presume these people made these assumptions by putting weight to the rankings but yet you want to single out the people that think there is a bias by, guess what, putting weight on to the rankings.

It's funny that some of these people are keen to disprove the bias theory by agreeing with you but yet put weight on rankings themselves to push how much better the Switch is doing.

I don't mind people actually claiming they believe the Switch is doing so much better but I do mind the hypocrisy.
