Forums - Sales Discussion - MHW sells 1.35 million copies at launch in Japan, > 2 million with Digital; PS4 140k

Honestly it is just a prediction for over 2m so not confirmed yet. Also could be a typo for 200k.

That's surprising it sold so much digitally, since most games only do like 10% digital. I bet Capcom didn't ship enough so they all had to go digital, ha ha

I think digital has been getting closer to 30% so 650k digital seems pretty reasonable.

So maybe it wasn't such an amazing success in the West as we thought, but rather it blew up in Japan haha. I mean with a 5 million shipment + digital, and Japanese sales > 2 million in the first two days.

It's pretty crazy, actually. I wonder what it's legs will be like considering the PS4's install base.

That would still leave 3m for the west

Digital is really high in the West, but when I look at the numbers from Famitsu for other games, it seems to be 10-15%.

Wait that is much higher than o expected the PS4 sold through as well as if 2mil is true. Will every Japanese PS4 owner eventually buy this game? Or over half of them at least. But I still think the switch version would have been a much better launch on Japan. It still could be of it launches at the end of the year when switch outsells PS4 which it easily will and companies backtrack all the time who knows if their deal with Sony about exclusion of the switch is time dependant or for this game it is that they are not allowed ever to release it on the big red machine

Very good performance. I'm happy to see it do so well.

3 million max, assuming there are no copies floating around in Japan which haven't been found and depending on how much more or less it sold than 2 million in Japan. I'm guessing between those two things there probably is something like 2.5 million shipped + sold digitally floating around in Japan, making it 2.5 million shipped + sold digitally in the West. Still will be the best the series ever has sold in the West (and Japan) at this point though.

You may be right, I hadn’t looked at digital ratios specifically in Japan.

It seems digital is trending upwards though, so it may be possible.

If digital sell through is right, then MHW is the second 2 millions console game seller in Japan since 2010, the first being Splatoon 2. Pretty crazy that the two series are dominating Japan.

Japan is the area where digital growth is the slowest. But, this is MH we're talking about. If it sold out at retail, then it's not surprisingly the digital attachment would be huge.
