The point is MS isn't going anywhere for a long time and the speculation needs to stop.

The irony here? This very topic is based solely on speculation. Can't allow one and shun the other, because right now, Microsoft is as likely to own EA as they are to exit the console business.....all on the back of speculation.

Ordinarily I'd agree and the two aren't mutually exclusive if XBX is their last console. MS adding their main releases to their GamePass shows that they're taking gaming as a service seriously. If we are entering an era of Subscription Wars then it wouldn't be unusual for some large acquisitions to take place.

Nintendo would get more EA games.

Well i'm glad someone in the first 10 posts said this.

I was thinking the same thing.

As strange as it sounds it makes business sense for them to do it. If anything kill FIFA on PS4 to gain ground.

MS have said they couldn't care less about console sales and more about making money through services and games. If they are not bullshitting, I don't think they would keep anything EA make exclusive to Xbox. They might give Xbox DLC, Betas etc first, but that's about it. They will make far more money keeping everything multiplatform than making IP exclusive

I predict Microsoft, knowing how hated EA is, will actually force EA to publish their games on Nintendo devices, that way no hardware company can brag that they don't have to deal with EA games.

All jokes aside, if Microsoft allowed Minecraft to stay multi to take in all the profits, why on Earth would they not do the same for EA (or any publishers) games? If this acquisition happens, I don't think it will be an indication of them forcing 3rd parties into 1st party, but rather of the concept that (in my opinion) Microsoft is moving more into a third party position themselves (when they can finally convince another hardware company to adopt Windows OS for their device). I guarantee you if Nintendo went to Microsoft and said, "we would be willing to use Windows OS and Windows Store [which could be steam soon], if you would be willing to merge our hardware and both of us make software for the same hardware," Microsoft would jump all over that. Xbox lost to ps2, the 360 lost to the Wii, and now the One is on a course to get destroyed by the ps4 and at least lose, maybe even get destroyed by, the Switch. They are always either 3rd or a distant 2nd and the investors know it.

Keep EA on all consoles, just treat the XB platform similar to how Activision is treating PS4. Make sure that the XB consoles get initial access and DLC, early enough to make it a benefit owning an XB console but without losing many customers from other platforms. Also have minor exclusives in those EA games that are only on XB platforms or are timed. This would basically allow XB to have their cake and eat it too. It grows the XB brand and player base while continuing to make massive profits from those EA games. Why try and fight PS for that one of a kind sports car when you could just have it by flaunting all that cash? Only to then charge PS (and anyone else) who needs it to pick up chicks, to borrow it from time to time, but with a limiter on it? No point in letting it sit in the garage if your driving one of your other toys for the time being.

no direct effect. I'm sure MS would have great bundles of Madden and Fifa. And those titles being exclusive, that would be a massive blow to Playstation than Nintendo. I guess MS could create a lower-end sport titles of Madden and Fifa for the switch.

I'm sort of curious if it would be almost a boon.

My thoughts: Because E.A so rarely puts their games on Nintendo systems, they aren't really in a conversation as to what makes the platform attractive. E.A's lack of Nintendo is also a common criticism of the platform, as it is a fairly solid hole in their lineup.

However, should E.A games become locked on a single platform, Nintendo not having E.A games is basically the same effect as saying Nintendo sucks 'because it doesn't get Sock Boy and Sea of Thieves'. So you won't really hear it anymore.

Of course I am aware of the argument that Microsoft would have E.A be like Minecraft and appear on multiple platforms, but given how much of a 'buy a console' the sports titles are Microsoft may have more reason to hold them to their own self instead of giving them to Playstation.

Seeing the effort EA puts into Nintendo consoles and the sales their games make on the platform, locking the games away to Xbox-platform will barely affect Nintendo. That should hit Sony in the feels though.

That said, I don't believe they lock it all into Xbox/Windows. Licensed stuff like FIFA and Star Wars probably has from the licencees the restriction that it should be put on any platform. And Microsoft does that as we can see with Minecraft. Even with cross-play.

So, in either case I see little impact on Nintendo.

No big difference for Nintendo

However, Sony would be doomed in Europe. No more Fifa for them would mean dwindling sales for them there

In other words, the only reason they dominate EU is because of FIFA?

No, but many buy a console in Europe only for Fifa and many more to play Fifa against their friends. Those would be forced to either leave Fifa behind or jump ship, and believe me that would be millions of console sales all taken together. Besides, how often had been said that without Fifa, Nintendo would be doomed in Europe? A home console without Fifa just doesn't sell very well in Europe.

Doomed might be superlative, but Europe wouldn't be Sonyland anymore.

It might be unpopular, but if Microsoft made the NFL and FIFA exclusive to their platforms I have to imagine it would sell a shit ton of consoles. Unlike the NBA, with Madden and FIFA (aside from being extremely popular) that monopoly EA has with them would probably force those who cared enough to jump ship. I'm not sure how well that would motivate Europeans, but in the fickle NA market which tends not to show "loyalty" to any one platform that could have a rather profound impact on them.

Still, isn't EA too dang big to just "buy"? Seems like this would never happen. As for Nintendo, I really don't think it would impact them much at all; only Sony would really be sweating such a deal.

why do people think if Microsoft bought EA that madden or fifa would be ms exlusives and that the nfl or fifa leagues would be ok with this? im pretty sure they'd lose the licenses if they tried having fifa and madden exclusive to xbox platforms
