Forums - Sales Discussion - Monster Hunter World Ships 5mil!

5m is a great milestone, but it's not sales yet. So, it's not success yet.

Don't get me wrong, I bet it will be a success, but not quite yet. I want to see sales numbers, specially Japanese sales

It's going to be pretty close to that number, though, as the game is mostly sold out physically.

Wow. I had minimal interest in the game before, but it has had immense hype where I am (Canada) both from colleague and online. Made me check out a bunch of videos and am interest in playing.

Dont give capcom to much credit lol. But this gamble paid off. The beta and Word of mouth help this out big time

So you're saying that expecting Capcom to localize the future games of what may well be their biggest franchise, is giving them too much credit?

And they should use Switch as the lead because you want to play on Switch and not because it would sell more than the others right?

Beat it, boy. Capcom's well being is my god.

But seriously, it'd make sense if the next MH has the Switch as the lead platform considering the potential in Japan. It would save the costs and time of having to re-engineer the PS4 game to the Switch.

People seem to be mistaking me. Im not talking aboit mhw. Credit is due there. Im talkin about them as a whole

That's fine.. but how is it that I'm giving them too much credit? All I care about is their game quality, which has been pretty crap for quite a while now from the little I played lol.

Again for MHW its fine, im talking about just overall. They messed up alot especially this year with many things. Pls dont take offence to this, im talking mostly how they handled there other games recently. That includes MHXX

Man considering how much more MHW sold compared to the previous and that the graphical prowess may have had a importance on it, making the sequel a Switch lead and thus having PS4+X1 version be subpar because of it may not be the best decision.

No offense taken, but you're just not answering my question.

He was just making fun of Capcom. Like you can't expect they to keep doing good decisions.

Kinda bittersweet for Sony, Microsoft and HD development in general. Capcom cancelled Monster Hunter Tri for the PS3 in 2008 for the same reasons why this game is a roaring success now.

Looking back at how I used to champion for this series to be on the Vita, mostly for the same fanboyish reasons people are posting today, I'm seeing that outside a hardware boost for that console, it still would have limited Monster Hunters true potential and appeal, especially in the West. This game will do for the wonders for the series.

That was political, if nothing else.

Nintendo handhelds were HUGE in Japan at the time. The DS was selling at a rate there that was completely unprecedented. It might have been the fastest selling product of all time in Japan, I'm not sure. Sales were crazy.

Capcom was looking at that, for the future.

Plus, the Wii was very big in Japan. And the PS3 was struggling in the beginning. It didn't make sense for them to go with PS3, for many reasons. Later on, the PSP kind of picked up a little bit, not nearly at the same level as the DS. And the PS3 ended up doing okay, later on. But by then Capcom settled with Nintendo for MHTri. And Nintendo actually published that game in the West.

Eventually Capcom got what they wanted, which was to launch the series on the 3DS.

Monster Hunter World for PS4 has already sold over 2 million copies (retail and digital) in Japan, now (february 01). Worldwide: The most successful and best rated Monster Hunter Game ever.

Worldwide for PS4 more than 4,2 million units ?!

I mean, those who want the top-of-the-line MH can continue to play MHW, or wait for MHW2. And no, this logic isn't inspired by Don Mattrick.

Now I understood Kyuu, you are talking about a different approach than MHW that could use Switch as base. Sure that is a possibility.

Capcom just fired 50 people, cancelled an unannounced game and will cut the scope on the next Dead Rising.

No surprise considering all the dumb publishing decisions they have made over the years. I'd like to see the development and marketing budget of a game like Monster Hunter World compared to the 3DS Monster Hunter games as well.

3ds used ps2 assets so not very high . Future mh titles wull use worlds assets so its an investment for the series
