Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: The Witcher 3 is boring, confusing, bad written and bad directed, etc...

Good for you. You saved yourself like 100h. A lot of extremely popular games don't appeal to me because that usually means that it appeals only to the lowest common denominator, which is not what I like.

For example, the mainstream gamer apparently hates archery, which is why The Witcher is so popular. I wouldn't even touch it.

Repetitive, boring quests, flat writing, poor animations, recycled voice-acting, poor and unresponsive combat, quirky angles and uninteresting lore. And then you cite Mass Effect, Skyrim and modern Fallout games as an example of, what? The opposite? Those games fall flat on those points to such an incredibly higher degree than TW3 that it beggars belief that anyone would even go there. I hope OP is some form of parody or satire, it certainly reads that way.

I understand how it might not appeal to everyone, but the critique in the OP is against the very things the game is the most lauded for by far for doing way better than other games in the same genre.

The OP is most of the impression I got from the game just by watching. Then again, it's a WRPG - I'll always hate 95% of them, and they will find their audience anyway.

Im not into story anyway or characters on voice acting. But what kills this game for me is the utterly shitty god awful  controls. How they made this so bad?

I tried with keyboerd/mouse and now with xbox controller. And this is one of the most unresponsive piece of shit controls i ever played with. Moving that dude to specific narrow places is horrible. Combat feels very delayed. Every button press has delays very often it dosent register at all.

I really hate how the character moves. Same for horse.

The basic stuff for a game, good controls isnt existing here. + tons of other complains alrdy mentioned here. The devs of this game should try Dark souls or Niera. Still not perfect but at least in combat she does what i tell her to do.

I start to play game recently (currently LV14) I agree about combat, I also dont like movement and camera, but quests, dialogues, characters, lore and world, Gwent, are all great things in game and I really enjoying game.

This is basically the same for me. Loved Fallout 3/NV/4 and ES 3/4/5, but absolutely despised Witcher 3. (I have played a loved Mass Effect 1 and 2, and parts of 3) I even bought the GOTY Edition since I heard it was so good. Played about 10 hours, couldn't stand the controls, and gave it to a friend. The art style was really great, and I thought the lore seemed interesting, but the actual gameplay was atrocious.

We even have Zelda avatars. Coincidence?!

We cant all like the same thing, but The Witcher 3 is the best game of 2015 and one of the best RPGs ever made.

Haha well thats cool, and talking of Zelda, after BotW i tried Witcher 3 GotY edition again, and i had to go around a cliff, i was like just CLIMB the hill its only 2 meter bloody high, but no Geralt had to walk around the bloody hill. I was snapped. Add in totally clunky controls and horrible combat.

You should probably not fall for hype next time and, considering RPGs you listed, stick to American made WRPGs (not that anything is inherently wrong with them per se).

Witcher 3 is definitely not as good of an open-world WRPG as people tend to rate it, it fails in so many aspects, especially when it comes to overly horizontal world building and proper RPG skills, yet calling its story, characters and combat boring or otherwise is...well silly IMO. And FFS, will you people stop comparing DS combat with Witcher, both are quite functional and quite average.

Making good open-world action WRPG is probably the hardest thing dev can set upon to do - it used to be quite niche genre, that peaked with Gothic 1/2 and Morrowind and it makes it even harder when they try to cater to mainstream audience. Unfortunately, CDPR decided to make mainstream game, and since open-world games became mainstream, they went with it. Witcher 2 is fairly linear game, but is much more detailed and overall much better game...well at least IMO.

But this is the price to be paid - Skryim is utter garbage compared to Morrowind, but Bethesda knows what they need to do to sell tens of millions instead of few millions.

These days, true WRPGs are more or less dead - at least when it comes to AAA devs - some genres are simply too niche in their core to remain true to itself when they go mainstream and are better left alone being niche.

That said, there might come the time when some new developer, bold enough to make paradigm shift, or at least go back to roots, will show up and make something really worth the praise.
