Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do the visuals on the Nintendo Switch compare to those of the Xbox 360 & PS3?

The Nintendo Switch hardware is...

A big leap over 7th gen 71 40.11%

A minor leap over 7th gen 72 40.68%

About the same as 7th gen 24 13.56%

Actually WORSE than last gen 10 5.65%

Total:177

people on here are crazy.......comparing a linear game uncharted, god of war and etc with other games from Switch that demand more...........uncharted and god of war you cannot go everywhere, only where the game allows you so you can allocate all your graphics to that part of the game making it look good...........games like Grand Theft, breath of the wild are more demanding.........even Horizon which do not allow you to interact with the environment, help save the power to increase visuals, you cannot even hit a fish in the water in that game

You can shoot fish in the water in Horizon though and enemies can destroy trees. That's pretty demanding for the hardware. Besides a cartoony game like Zelda can do without high res textures, so it's not like that doesn't help out Zelda. Anyway the Switch should be a step up from 13 year old hardware. But visually not a single game can come close to Horizon on Switch no matter how restricted it is.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

pretty much the same with a bit smoother run, but then again Nintendo always does well with their own titles.

Not sure why we're even comparing Switch to PS4; not only is the topic Switch vs PS3/360, but expecting a portable to measure up to a console released just a few years prior in raw horsepower is kinda pointless. It's like saying "not a single game on Vita can come close to GTA 5/God of War Ascension/The Last of Us no matter how restricted it is." I mean, it's true, but it also goes without saying.

If it manages to run Dark Souls 1080@30fps, I'll admit to it being a fair bit more powerful. Until then I feel it's about the same.

It runs Skyrim at 900p/30fps with improved textures, water, and foliage compared to 720p/20-30fps on PS3/360 with worse assets. How is that "about the same"?

Because Skyrim is a good idea with typical Bethesda shit programming that got better over time. When you're porting a game for the nth time, I would hope you're not doing so with the same embarrassing level of execution that Skyrim originally did.

In other words, I don't trust a Bethesda title as a benchmark.

FIFA 18 demonstrates the gap too; 1080p on Switch over 720p on PS3/360, plus improved shaders, textures, and effects.

Bayonetta is going to give us a pretty good opportunity, as that will be a 360/PS3/Wii U/Switch cross-platform title, so it should really help showcase the differences.

umm switch has shown it's clearly more powerful GPU wise. ps3/360 couldn't' do anything at 1080p, except for a few rare cases, switch already has fifa, lego, la noir, and mario kart. its clearly a nice step up. 1080p  pushes 2.5x the pixel count of 720p, so its something 360/ps3 would never  able to do in those ports.
