Forums - Gaming Discussion - How do the visuals on the Nintendo Switch compare to those of the Xbox 360 & PS3?

The Nintendo Switch hardware is...

A big leap over 7th gen 71 40.11%

A minor leap over 7th gen 72 40.68%

About the same as 7th gen 24 13.56%

Actually WORSE than last gen 10 5.65%

Total:177

In another thread, the topic had taken a turn and many are comparing the Switch to the HD Twins of the 7th gen. Maybe we can bring that discussion here...

In the past, we've had awesome comparisons between the best looking software on the original Xbox vs the Nintendo Wii. Now, it's time for the main event. Fell free to bring your personal experiences, specs, screenshots, frame rate/resolution comparisons, online, etc and show us why you think the Switch is

A.) A huge jump in quality B.) A minor step up (7.5 Gen, if you will...) or C.) About the same level as

When compared to the "powerhouse consoles" of last gen. You can even toss in the Wii U for good measure!

Ready?

FIGHT!!

It's noticeably better than 7th gen, but also clearly below 8th gen....

I would say it stays middle way from both in terms of quality. Technically it's closer to 7th gen but the things devs are accomplishing bring the Switch to another level.

PS4: Tryklon  Steam: Tryklon

Switch: 0307-6588-7010 | New 2DS XL: 2037-2612-6964

MacBook Air (Mid 2017) | iPhone SE | Apple Watch Series 3

I would say about the same.

Noticeably better than last gen and with the right optimization able to run some current gen games (PS4/XB1)

I wouldn't say it's "minor" or "big" really.. I notice the differences but I don't think they're insignificant, and they're also obviously not on the level of PS4 or Xbox One.

I voted 'slightly improved' but then, I don't actually feel that PS4 was a massive improvement over PS3. It's difficult to say because Skyrim obviously looks a lot better than it did on XBox 360 but that's because it’s a remastered build; you have to think in terms of measuring a lot of individual games on a like-for-like basis and the Switch doesn't have 99% of the games on PS3 or 360. The Last Of Us is a really tough target because it looks much better than most PS3 games in the first place ... if you let an outlier stand for the entire system then the Wii U was a graphical powerhouse thanks to BotW!

so its on another level  right? But its closer to the "level" on 7th gen?

ok, now you are just messin with us Mnementh  =p

In my ever so humble (and non uber tech knowledge) opinion:

There were aspects to the WiiU that were superior in tech to the ps360.  It definitely had a couple strong point areas (ram), but then some that were on par or weaker (cpu cores?).

The Switch, despite using mobile tech, appears to be way more capable than the WiiU.  So that would put Switch about halfway between the U and the xboner and lightyears out in front of ps360.

*edit and that is certainly impressive when you say apples to apples is a full blown console (mini pc) vs mobile chipset.  look at the formfactor.  that is freakin impressive if you ask me.

yes, no?
