Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: God of War PS4 will sell 10M+

I'd say 10 million units would be too optimistic. I'd personally settle for 7-8 million units lifetime, but the PS4 has a massive install base, so 10 millions lifetime wouldn't be too crazy of a prediction.

While I do think 10M is possible, I would bet on something more like 7-9M. I think the series will have increased appeal now that Kratos is more relatable instead of being a douche. It didn't bothered me, but I think a lot of people were put off by that. It also brings a much needed refreshing to the combat, that was getting stale at this point.

A lot of people are bringing GoW: Ascension to the table. That game was released in a year where most sequels sold poorly and with the PS4 already being the new stuff. It's just like Gears Judgement. In both cases, the developers didn't want to do a full fledged sequel because that history should be reserved for the new gen game. So they were unnecessary prequels, with no important plot.

The GoW prequels added to the history, specially by answering questions about Deimos that were teased in the mainline games. But Ascension? All the Fury plot didn't add anything to the history. Don't get me wrong, I liked the game, but it is really not necessary to the general plot.

You know, one is about fungus zombies and the other is about killing gods.  You need something a little bit more concrete than saying they are similar because they are games, by Sony, with people in them, interacting.

If you can't see "walky-talky feels" narrative this GoW and LoU share, sorry to be the one to tell you mate, but you're legally blind.

What is walky-talky feels?  What the hell are you guys trying to force into reality that isn't real?

I'm dead serious, I want to know what a walky-talky feels narrative is since I actually played the GOW serious before and actually know what it is about.  I know that if anything GOW 3 is the inspiration for TLoU but you keep pumping that bullshit like you actually know what you are talking about.

What was God of War III about?  What was the narrative?  I not gonna let you get away with making crap up.   What was God of War 3's narrative?  Was it not about a man who lost his family and become a father figure to a girl who reminds him of his daughter while he escorts her to Mount Olympus?  Hmm, sound familiar?  Back off.   Games didn't begin with TLoU.   God of War has ALWAYS been about Kratos' family.  It is kinda the point of the whole series.

Anyone who thinks that GOW copied off of TLOU is so backwards insane, blatantly lying or on some group thought bandwagon that its to the point of insulting.

But now, since TLoU is so popular, games can't be about what they were always about.   You called me blind.  Is any game with a story TLoU or is it games with stories that feature an older and younger character and are produced by Sony regardless of the actual setting, story, relationship, history of the game, actual gameplay, or common sense all TLoU?  Yes they are because you can see for real.   I would have given you Days Gone because there are actual similarities but not this god killing hack and slash title.   Nope.  Not gonna pretend to be that stupid.

Most of the naysayers of the new game seem to be the same ones that disliked the Greek games for Kratos being a dick. Oh the irony.

Just because GoW has a story, doesn't make it TLoU.  That's not what I'm talking about and I have no idea what you're on about with "GoW is inspiration" for anything bollocks.

This game looks and sounds nothing like a GoW game.  Every trailer has this guy named Kratos "being a dad", as if he wasn't a horrible, genocidal, mankind apocalypse bringer.  This guy has a generic axe and does a special move where he... sorta tosses it?  Right, and he can't jump either.  And just for good measure of keeping character continuity, they went ahead and changed his voice too.  Why?  Because this is God of Feels, son.

The main point I'm trying to point at is how much walking around the player does in the trailers.  Walking around, stopping to watch a cutscene of a cliff falling and Kratos just... jumping it.  Instead of letting the player do it, he just sorta does it in the cutscene.  Walking around + babysitting little kid + watching cutscenes of your character do things instead of playing a video game = 10/10 amirite?

Before I go plagiarizing, most of what I'm saying is summarized in a video I completely agree with.  If you take a moment to watch it, you might see what I'm getting at.

Wow so clueless. This iteration of GoW will be the longest by far. Will have the most exploration. The most tactical combat with enemy moveset that is already more advanced than anything in the older ones. Lastly it will have the best story of them all, and thank god for that, because this incredibly interesting universe deserves it. GoW haters are fucking unbearable. First they shit on the series throughout its existence and then they feel like the series should cater to them.

So a "hater" is clueless for criticizing what they have seen, but you're totally not clueless for believing in things that you haven't seen?

Welp.

He was always a dad......just to be clear. And a husband.....whose family was taken from him by the Gods and the ashes covered his body. I mean that is the reason he went on that rampage to begin with is it not? All because of how much his family meant to him. And yep we saw an axe(which there is nothing wrong with) even though every GOW game has had multiple weapons so not sure why bring that up like it is an issue. And was it confirmed that he can not jump is this game? I am asking because that part I do not know. And there could be a million reasons why his voice was changed.....that just seems as if you are nitpicking just to nitpick lol. And that video you posted is really interesting....I don't agree with it all and that is fine we are free to agree/disagree.

I even understand the TLOU stuff even though it is silly. It looks more story driven.....even though the story has always been a big part of the series so not sure why that is all of a sudden an issue. No zombies but freaking Gods and mythical creatures, flying axes, God like powers and I am almost 100% sure more weapons and magic. I mean outside of being 3rd person, having an adult  and a child traveling and maybe a few set pieces(which we saw in GOW before this one) there is nothing similar between it and TLOU I mean with that argument every game that is 3rd person with a adult and child traveling is TLOUish. Even though you had stealth options. This game looks far more action packed. Even with the LITTLE that they have shown in trailers. I think the change was much needed after what 5 or 6 games including the PSP games.

Question....did you play TLOU and if so did you like it or dislike it?

It would be weird if monster Hunter world shipped more than God of war week 1.

It got a huge push from Sony in Asia. You'd like to think Sony will do likewise for god of war but in Europe and the USA instead.

If the game turns out to be epic it's week 1 sales should be huge.

Monster Hunter, god of war, spiderman, rdr2. 4 massive big titles likely to release on ps4 before the holidays.
