Forums - Sports Discussion - It's official: The Xtreme Football League is returning

So, after much speculation, Vince McMahon himself announced that it would return in 2020.  One of the most notable things I think is that Vince McMahon is going to start up his own company to fund it, rather than it being tied to WWE. Also, they said that it will be more toned down from the original XFL, so I assume the rules will be more like the NFL than the previous one was. In any case, I am skepitcal, I am obviously curious, but I don't think this will be successful or last long at all.

Xtreme football? It is something like Mario strikers, which dosent play by the rules?

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I don't think it's an unreasonable idea, especially given how TV in general has struggled to retain audiences. If they make an effort to support online broadcasting, and push for a quicker paced game (both in terms of commercials and in game stoppages), this could work out. If a new professional football league ever wanted to jump in to what has been a market dominated by the NFL, this is the time to do so.

If it operates as the original XFL did, then it will be an actual sport...admittedly one with a very low quality of play.

Would you consider this the official thread of the XFL?

No, I didn't get mod approval, and I don't have the commitment to make an OT on it.

I just sold my XFL official football still in the box for a few hundred bucks. I still have a crap ton of XFL Merch in my storage shed. I think I have a bunch of old games on VHS. I knew when the rumors started the new XFL would make drastic changes from its original incarnation and I was right. They learned a lot of lessons but I'm still doubtful. I think they should just be a developmental league and work with the NFL like the Minors do with MLB. Play during the NFL season and air on days college and NFL don't air.

If this means Ohio will have a team worth rooting for besides OSU, then I'm all for it. I kinda doubt that'll happen, though.

The original XFL did try to combine drama and sports, but Vince McMahon wants to make this more of a serious sporting competition.

Is that the one with the half naked sexy ladies doing sports? I hope it succeeds against angry feminists because that'll mean porn will be safe for a while.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I'm still waiting for RollerJam to come back.

XFL was a bit before my time but I'd watch it just to see how bad the skill level really is.
