"LOL!"
-Blockbuster-

Around the Network

I do not understand why is it that some people here think physical games are gonna go the way of Blockbuster. They are different mediums, in price, value, and fans. Digital is surely going to go stronger in the coming years, but I imagine it will reach some kind of peak after which it will barely grow - too many people are attached to their physical copies, myself included.

There needs to be an overhaul of digital, with better deals (except for steam, the deals are in fact too good), a simple loaning mechanism, and re-sell value if it is to improve upon physical further.

Just like stores stopped selling mobile phones and tablet PCs since every app is digital anyway.
Oh wait they didn't.

That the dumbest example I've ever seen since mobile phones and tablet PCs never had physical games/apps to begin with!!

Another xbox fan's mentality I'll never understand...

Oh and LMAO at your sig, that bloody hilariously irony!

Not everyone who doesn’t share your opinion is an “Xbox fan”. And there is no “Xbox fan mentality”. Lots of people in this thread understand the direction technology is going regardless of what toy they are a fan of. Personally I for the life of me can’t understand why someone would see such a good consumer friendly program and crap on it for being “anti retail”. To put the profits of retail stores above your own personal well being as a consumer is something I just would never do. But that’s your opinion, you’re welcome to it. And others are welcome to theirs without being lumped into some stupid group think. Not everything is console warz.

You might not think that physical will become more or less extinct, but you can´t even understand how some of us think it will? ecause there aren´t emphirical data to draw conclusions from?

The empirical data shows that digital is gaining on physical, but there has to be a certain limit to this growth is exactly what I am saying.

Until games are still sold physically, you cant have deeper sales in digital, since thats gonna piss off the retailers, and possibly make them stop selling your games.

Once Gamestop slowly bleeds out, and enough of the audience adopts digital (which isnt that far off), digital deals will get way better.

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

Of course there are different mentalities as to why. But I think specifically in this case, it's a report of a retailer ceasing Xbox One sales thus prompting extreme reaction from some of the Xbox camp.  Yes, I went there.

And got quoted, no going back...

"the way of blockbuster" is a bit extreme in my eyes though...

I don´t really understand the argument here. A retailer seizes sales of Xbox Ones because MS has made digital more attractive. In what way would it be less interesting to buy an Xbox One because they are giving away more games digitally? You really think their argument is valid?

Yep.  I was right.

The top selling consoles are the Switch and PS4.  So in theory (and generally proven in reality), retailers will profit more by allocating more "shelf space" to those consoles.  So in the short run when consumers are buying less physical copies of Xbox One games, retailers might as well use that space to promote BOTH hardware and software for the Switch and PS4.
