Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Worldwide Xbox One sales dropped below Xbox 360 in 2017

This is basically just a repost of a thread I saw on neogaf by 8bitGhost.

"It is often said that although Xbox One sales are far below the PlayStation 4, the system is still outperforming the 360 at the same stage of its lifecycle. Well not anymore! Global Xbox One sales are down 2 years in a row and in 2017 it dropped below the 360 when launches are aligned.

Confirmed by Niko analyst Daniel Ahmad."

So my question is this..... if xbox 360 launched in november 2005 (wiki says so), how where its sales at the end of 2009 ?

Does anyone know? official numbers? or even just vgcz numbers for its global sales? It should give us a idea of what "max" it could be at, by jan 2018.

At the end of 2009 it was at 37m according to VGC. I don’t think XB1 is even near that.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Well atleast now we know 100% its below that.

Hm. It'll be interesting to see if aggressive pricing for the S and the new game pass deal can bring it back up to the 360's pace again. I'd have said no f***in' way only a few months ago.

Everone knows its not as popular as the 360. Is there going to be one of these threads every month then?

I know its not a exact number, but knowing with certainty its under X amount, can still be usefull right?

Esp considering how close vgcz is to that max number.

This also confirms that vgcz isnt undertracking the Xbox One, if anything it might be abit overtracking.
These are good things to know, being accurate (vgcz) is a good thing.

So that means the XB1 was tracking ahead of the 360 in 2016. That means XB1 sales by the end of 2016 were more than 28m. Someone earlier said that the XBO by the end of 2009 was 37m so XBO should be around 35-36m by the end of last year.

I believe phil Spencer about xbox one sales, not these so called insiders. Also vgchartz sales has never been right concerning xbox numbers , even during xbox 360 days. They were always off every time, I believe xbox one numbers are at 38 million or above that figure. Anyways I'll always trust phil over some biased so called insider.

Also xbox one x sales will help it reach a yoy up for the system overall by the end of 2018.

Well Vgchartz definitely overtracked the PS3 and undertracked 360 and never bothered to fix it. That being said Zhuge is a trustworthy insider and XBO will never outsell 360.
