Forums - Gaming Discussion - How important is VR (Games) to you in the future? + The Inpatient - Launch Trailer

honestly, never tried VR, well, not VR today. i was a dactyl nightmare fan, and i spend probably over 150$ to play with it. (yeah yeah, i know, i'm old)

but, it's not how i play today. i can understand the appeal, i will surely tries it if i got the chance, but i will not buy a ps4 and a vr set just for that. i dont enough time to get that invested in a game, and most games i play are not well suited for VR, so i guess i'll stick to my switch and my pc.

Looking forward to playing my first big open world game on a premium VR headset. Either of which have yet to be made. Fingers crossed for something like that to happen within the next 5 years.

Well an open world came out months ago! get out of the rock already!

Yeah I agree the google cardboard and Samsung gear aren't premium enough. Luckily we have VR premiums such as PSVR, htc vive and oculus rift. Where were you when these came out?...oh I see you still under that rock.

I think we have different expectations when we're talking about "premium".

Also, I should've specified "first good open world game". That's an error on my part.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It's the most exciting way to play games since decades for me. I feel like I was a teenager again, playing on the PS1.

Playing Dirt Rally VR recently and it's what I have always dreamed of, being a total car nut.

Also can't imagine to ever play RE7 or Skyrim without VR, so obviously I hope the technology keeps thriving.

Not really interested in VR, to be honest. It hasn't proved it can do anything regular games can't do. Motion controlls proved it could add a lot, specially when it's complementary to the regular controlls. I still have to see this happening to VR.

Are you for real?!

Are you sure you have even tried a decent VR game yet?!

Not even talking about stuff like Star Trek Bridge Crew or VR Chat, Eagle Flight, Farpoint or Batman VR.

Had PSVR, sold it. So for me off no importance.

Sure...

Whats so unbelievable? Dont understand why you would doubt that? Bought psvr day one back in november 16 sold it about 5 months later. Again i ask whats so unbelievable?

I'm not going to be interested in VR until some really good games come out for it. I think in general the VR needs the equivalent of a Guitar Hero to really take off: a game good enough to make you buy an expensive peripheral.

As long as Nintendo stays away from it, it doesn't bother me.

You guys are awesome and like to move on to try and enjoy new revolution in gaming rather than stuck in the past. Totally agree with you guys!

Happy gaming fellas

EDIT : Forgot to quote habam too! Sorry fella, totally agree with him too!

Honestly: I think we are the only ones that actually own one and use is regulary. If everybody on this forum would had a VR headset and already their VR legs, the general opinion would be vastly different.

Do you own a VR headset? Have you demoed it to friends? What did they thought?

I'll come out and say I haven't tried it yet. I want to try it. Just haven't been ready to plank down the 400CDN minimum to get started. Maybe some time in this calendar year I'll pick up Oculus or PSVR, but we'll see. But here are my thoughts/reservations on VR, from someone who doesn't have any hands on experience:

1. Games - This really needs to be improved. Right now we have about 80% experiences and simulators, but not as much as I'd like for full gaming experiences. I'm sure those little simulation and simple experiences are neat, but I'm here for the games. The big ones. And before anyone starts yelling Skyrim and Fallout at me...I've already played those games. Skyrim 7 years ago, even. I'd love to have a fully fleshed out open world RPG to play in VR, so I am excited for whatever bethesda is working on next, because you know it'll be VR-compatible.

2. Perspective - Is everything forced into a first person perspective? Because that's really not the type of game I play the most. Could VR work for a third person game? Top down? A side scroller? These are genres and perspectives I am curious to see how they handle in VR. Because first person games don't necessarily make up the majority of my gaming time, and it'd certainly be a barrier to this whole "we'll be playing everything in VR in the future" business.

3. Movement - Not sure if anyone will ever figure this out, but movement in a 3D world is a major hurdle. If we're looking for full immersion, movement is a must. Virtuix Omni looked like it would be a cool solution, but they've now gone to selling only to the commercial market.

All that being said, I really want to try VR. I'm just concerned the lack of games I want to play will be a barrier to me actually getting one.

1. That are the best VR games released last year (most of them are full games, not demos):

2.

3. I think stick based / button based movement works pretty well.Real movement is very exhausting, I dont think it will be the future.

Even if it manages to offer a similar experience to, let's say, Sword Art Online in the near future... I couldn't be less interested in VR. I just don't see myself enjoying a videogame that way. Put me some distance between me and the screen and give me some buttons, please...
