Forums - Microsoft Discussion - All New Microsoft Studio Releases Will be On Xbox Game Pass

How do they make a profit on that ?

Preventing people from throwing their Xbox to the trash seems like a good strategy for profit.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Seems like a desperate move by MS.

It is, but not for the reason you're implying. They want to transform the industry into an all-digial one. That's all this is about. Nothing more.

Glad I never used my 1 month free game pass that was included free for my Xbox One X though I kinda feel somewhat wanna be a late secret santa and give the code to anyone since i dont have money problems

edit: Or should I keep my game pass

I'll take it if you really just want to give it away

Great deal and all, but its a step closer to a digital only future. I don't like it.

Yeah, there's no doubt that this is MS's big push towards digital only. I understand that those who want physical copies don't like but I myself look forward to digital becoming the standard even more.

That's pretty crazy. I wonder how it works out for Microsoft.

They've had excellent release this Gen - Halo 5, Halo Wars 2, Gears 4, Ori, Quantum Break, Dead Rising 3, Sunset Overdrive, Halo Master Chief collection & Forza Series.

Then there was the good release Super lucky Tales, Rare Replay, Scream ride, Zoo Tycoon, Recore, D4, Ryse: Son of romes.

I bet there a few lackluster game like lococycle and any of the Kinects games that weren't so good but that hardly worth mentioning.

You seem to have listed almost all exclusives and consider the majority to be good to excellent. That would probably not be the same feeling someone that isn't invested in the ecosystem have.

Every game that I list has excellent all have Metacritic score of 75 and above. Therefore, I'm not making the statement has someone invested in the ecosystem but rather reviewers.

This is what to expect going for ward if you subscribe to game pass.

One more thing about Game Pass--the titles don't stay there forever. The game may be there day one but it could be gone in a month. Then, you can buy it at a discount. If the game is good enough, people will want to own it.

Xbox games will probably stay in the service forever.

And even if they are not, so what? You save money either way without having to wait for a price drop:

buy the game at release to keep it forever: $60 - $70

subscribe one month to gape ass game pass when the game launches: $10
then buy an additional copy a few years later to have it in the collection: ~$10
total costs: ~$20

or if you don't want to wait that long:

subscribe one month to gape ass game pass when the game launches: $10
then buy an additional copy a few month later (f.e. next black friday) to have it in the collection: ~$30
total costs: ~$40

Well lets do some math and make some arguments why this could be a good idea...

This year it includes enough content to justify a year of Gamepass. I assume it will get Sea of Theives, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, maybe another Forza, and maybe other surprises.

Its worth noting MS and other companies don't actually get $60 when they sell a game in retail. The return is probably closer to $30 based on estimates we hear. While Gamepass is money coming directly to them, and someone subscribing for a year is a lot more money from the consumer directly.

Not everybody is going to subscribe to Gamepass given they won't actually own the game and many still want physical copies.

The only announced MS games I'm excited enough to buy at launch is Crackdown 3. But if I can play all of their releases with Gamepass, then that's a very appealing reason to subscribe and stay subscribed.

I think this is an awesome idea, it will encourage a lot of avid gamers to subscribe, and that will increase 1st party revenue.

Never said it's a bad idea. It certainly has some benefits for consumers. I'm more concerned what that means for their games output in the coming years.

Well their output annually is generally 2-3 new big budget games, a few smaller digital games, and maybe a remaster. While some 3rd party exclusive deal happen for marketing reasons.

I wouldnt expect much change. If subscriptions do well it should actually fund more games.

Also, if does do well then maybe MS should pay 3rd parties to launch some notable games on it as well. That would also encourage subscriptions. But obviously I mean games anticipating modest sales on Xbox, like the new Metro, Metal Gear Survive, etc.

It also worth pointing out, every game on Xbox Game Pass is discounted 20% if you do decide to buy the game and 10% off any add-ons. It does say in the description, discount offers exclude titles within 30 days of launch.
