It won't announce that because it's not true.

We get official shipment numbers in less than 2 weeks.

Wii shipments after ~10 months (Sept 2007)-13.17 million

PS4 shipments after ~10 months (Sept 2014)-13.5 million

As of now, Nintendo refers to Switch as a home console in their PR statements and these are the two highest selling home consoles after 10 months, Switch is almost 100% ahead of both of them at this point.

You're forgetting something. Nearly 20 million PS2 shipments in it's first year and it's launch was all over the place. Nintendo hasn't claimed best seller ww in 10 months because it's not.

PS2 launched on March 4th, 2000, and it had lifetime shipments of 10.61 million as of December 31st, 2000. It is far from being the best-selling console as of 10 months.

You're counting from its lone Japan launch. If you count from it's ww launch, it's well above even if you subtract what it got from Japan up to the ww launch.

Okay... so if you pretend that supply chain logistics don't exist, and that sales in Japan would have been at their elevated post-launch level despite launching in November, then PS2 shipped 16.05 million units during 12 months for Japan and NA, and 11 months in PAL regions.

Too bad GBA, by that same calculation, shipped 17.09 million with 12 months in Japan and 10 months in NA and PAL regions.

You are wrong no matter how you shift the goalposts.

GBA? What does it got to do with it?

Im not forgetting anything, im going based on how a company's PR operate.

Its no different than when Sony claimed PS4 was tracking ahead of PS2, it wasnt true if you aligned all region launches but they said it anyway.

GBA? What does it got to do with it?

Because it's a video game console, and literally nothing about your comment chain indicated any further specification?

These threads are starting to come off as pointless gloating considering how the titles are worded and it's for any country regardless of their relevance.

Dont be bitter, every piece of positive PR gets a thread regardless of the company.

But it would be nice if Nintendo just announced that WW Switch is their best selling console after 10 months that way we dont need a new thread for each country.

No it doesn't. Sony fans don't really create threads with cherry picked information.

It won't announce that because it's not true.

Pictured: You saying that is not true.

Pictured: Zorg's explanation, your response. Words used: "Best seller WW in 10 months".

Not found: Home console.

Funnily enough, this makes you even more wrong than I first thought. Your initial response to zorg, saying that Nintendo can't announce something that isn't true, is incorrect if you were just talking about home consoles, because zorg specifically said "THEIR" fastest-selling console, i.e. Nintendo's fastest-selling console, for which Switch is easily in first place as of ten months.

Either your initial post included handhelds and your subsequent post about PS2 being in first place is wrong, or your initial post excluded handhelds and was thus wrong on its own. Of course, the second post is still wrong regardless, because companies don't get to magically allign their regional launches to claim the title of "fastest-selling worldwide".

You're just strawmanning now.  I was clearly talking about home consoles. You only brought it up to say Nintendo sold more. I brought up the ps2 to counter the figures he brought up to show that the ns sold more in that time frame. Anything  can sell more than something else when you cherry pick.

In all likelihood, the ns sold less than the ps4 ww in the first 10 months considering that Nintendo hasn't said anything about beating the ps4 in that way. Anyway, I'm done talking about ww sales in a npd thread. I didn't mean for it to go on for this long and I don't want to distract from the core topic.

I trust NPD.

Cool....lets see how switch is in 5 years.
Hopefully i wont end like 3ds or wii

They are both home and handheld consoles winner of their generation.

Wii sold more than Ps3 and 360.

3DS sold more that Vita.

why is that a bad thing?

Switch!!!
