Forums - Nintendo Discussion - US: Switch has sold more consoles than any other platform in history on a time-aligned basis

Cool....lets see how switch is in 5 years.
Hopefully i wont end like 3ds or wii

Since Nintendo only has one platform anymore, they can keep developing for the Switch for a long time. Its legs should be at least decent.

This makes me think that launching a new console in feb, so you can benefit from extra sales in the holidays (that arnt the fanboys/guaranteed sales) is better.

Im not sure theres a big benefit from launching in novemeber/december, like console makers have done in the past.
Theres a "core" user base, that ll always adapt early, and those guys/gals buy whenever it launches.
Then your sold out (usually) in the first year, just ruining your holiday boost.

Nintendos way of launching early in the year makes more sense to me, that way you dont risk wasteing your first holidays.

Nintendo typically launches late in the year, or during holidays, like most competitors. The 3DS and Switch are the only systems that come to mind with early release dates. Wii and DS were both holiday releases, as was the Wii U.

Also, Nintendo had an absolutely amazing year in terms of software releases, so if they were ready to launch in March, having to wait until the holiday would be way too much downtime (given that they already had software lined up). Nintendo released their system in March because they weren't ready in time for the 2016 holiday, and they didn't want to wait another year. That's the way I see it, at least.

Klaud was just trolling. Obviously he knows that if the Switch plays out like the Wii, it will be a tremendous success.

I don't think the fact that there is just one system makes a difference, but maybe the fact that it's also a handheld, and Nintendo's handhelds seem to have longer lifespans than their consoles.

The Switch being an underpowered "console" (but an overpowered "handheld") means that folks who use it as a console will probably see it as outdated tech in five years, when 4K will be the norm, and 8K is gaining traction.

They have 2 platforms, Switch and 3DS.

I doubt the 3DS will still be around in five years.

These threads are starting to come off as pointless gloating considering how the titles are worded and it's for any country regardless of their relevance.

Dont be bitter, every piece of positive PR gets a thread regardless of the company.

But it would be nice if Nintendo just announced that WW Switch is their best selling console after 10 months that way we dont need a new thread for each country.

No it doesn't. Sony fans don't really create threads with cherry picked information.

It won't announce that because it's not true.

Sony fans have been doing the same thing for about the past 4 years. Don't lie now.

Sony typically beats the others overall so we feel the need to post regional sales as much. It's coming off as "we lost in ww sales but we won in this country". There's a lot of those floating around. I also don't care for the reactionary threads either.
