Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Underappreciated Switch games?

The Switch is great system with an already impressive library of games. With that being the case, it's easy for good games to get completely ignored in favor of the higher profile stuff. With that being the case, are there any lower profile games that you feel deserve more love?

My current guilty pleasure is Riptide GP: Renegade. I got it for like five dollars and I can't stop playing it. It's got some flaws like a shortage of unique tracks, voice acting, polish, etc but it's such a fun and addicting racer. It gives me that "Wave Race" feeling that I've been missing for decades. I can't stop playing it.

What's yours?

I'm actually thinking about buying Riptide. I have Riptide GP2 for Xbox One, it's far from perfect but it's not a bad game and does make fun. Seems Renegeda got a lot of improvements.

If you haven't got it for Wii U, buy FAST RMX. I have the Wii U download and Disc version and still want to buy the Switch version which has improved graphics and more tracks. Even got a free add on recently. Only reason i haven't bought it a third time yet is having to much other games right now i have to play for reviews or want to finish first.
THough now i'm writing about it i think i need a new e-shop card. Now.

I second you on Fast RMX! When I first got my Switch, that was the game I got to show off what it could do graphically. It was tons of fun. A few missing bells and whistles stopped it from being a top tier title but it's more than worth the purchase.

minor entry, but i double dipped and bought Overcooked for the Switch. its a very fun party game and my friends always have a blast with it, but I dont have the money to invest in another 2 Xbox controller so we can play the Steam version. On the Switch we just need 2 sets of joycons, or the equivalent of the console plus one extra controller. The Switch is the best console out there for party games which is why I find it weird that Nintendo hasnt been focusing much on them, which is weird in its own right

I was gonna say the sameness about Riptide. For the price, it’s extremely good.

Honestly though Gear.Club I feel is under appreciated. It’s not a bad game whatsoever, but everyone criticized that it is a mobile game and automatically writes it off. I’m having a lot of fun with it. My only complaint is no online.

ANDY MURRAY:- GRAND SLAM WINNER!

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Gearclub, like has already been mentioned. Unfairly criticised in reviews imo and beach buggy racing. Whole lot of fun.

Thanks for suggesting Riptide Renegade, it actually looks like something I might really enjoy. Here is my list:

Larger-Scale under appreciated titles:

-Xenoblade Chronicles 2: I am still not sure why this series is so niche everywhere. While XC2 is performing much better than its predecessors, I still think the series holds more potential.
-Doom: Obviously not as good as the stationary versions in terms of graphics (and for me these FPS type games still play best on PC thanks to mouse and keyboard support). However, being able to play such a competent port of this game on the go is really amazing.
-FIFA: Yes the Switch version is an enhanced port of the last-gen game, and yes if you are only going to play on TV then you are better served by the other versions. However, this is the best handheld (and yes I am counting smartphone versions) FIFA I have ever played. I have seen this game get a lot of flack as a lazy port, with people wanting EA to take 2K approach and make an inferior port of the current gen version. To be fair, the 2K approach has some advantages like giving you a more modern base game with more features. However, the EA approach here gives a slightly outdated game that exhibits good performance.

Indie Games:
Just off of the top of my head I would say Human Resources Machine: I like computer programming and puzzle solving; hence, I really enjoyed this game. I had some other Indies in mind as being under appreciated, but many of their developers expressed that their games sold quite well on the system so I don't think they are under appreciated.

I agree on Fast RMX. It's a good stand in for F-zero, high difficulty, super fast, great graphics, lots of courses, fun, and only $20!

The other is Mr. Shifty. It was actually Mr Shifty (along with Zelda) that made we want to get the Switch before Mario Odyssey came out. Game is only about 5 hours long but it is pretty freakin cool and what like $15 or something. It got beat up a bit when it came out because it had bad framerate issues but a patch fixed that and when I played it I had just about no framerate issues and it certainly didn't affect the gameplay. A great beat 'em up game with fun gameplay mechanics. I really thought this game would be at the top of the eshop after Switch's launch and I was surprised it seems to not have sold a lot.

I know it has a ton of downloads but Blaster Master 0 was one of my favorite games this year, so I'm gonna mention it anyway. Absolute gem!

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!
