Forums - Nintendo Discussion - 3DS just had its best month of sales since late 2014! What does this mean for its future?

Vita had a good 2016 by its low standards but when support dried up in 2017 it fell off a cliff. I'm expecting 2018 3ds sales to be hugely down on 2017. I've only seen data for Japan so far but it's proving true at least!

I think the lack of BC for the switch, which is a first for a ninty handheld, is whats keeping sales alive
Hell, I bought a 3ds after switch launch for that reason. I mean, why would you buy a DS in late 2011 when you can buy a perfectly BC compatable 3ds?

Hopefully it means a new Gameboy line of handhelds. Yeah, one can dream.

how would they make one without cannibalizing the switch market?

Lower end hardware and games? That's how Nintendo use to operate and it worked. You could buy a more expensive NES and get great sound and graphics with color, or you could buy a much cheaper Gameboy and get puke green graphics with smaller games that you could only play under a 3,000 watt light bulb lol

"used to operate"... i know it seems like forever already expecting 1 home console and 1 hand held console every gen. switched blurred the shit out of that line...

but yeah the 3k watt light bulb might be the way to go lol

Its pretty crazy that 3DS sales are still humming along decently despite the Switch being out as its successor and being super popular. This year though they should definitely knock $50 off the price of 3DS and 2DS to keep it still viable while the Switch is the high end portable at $300.

I'd love to see the 3DSXL drop to $159, the 2DSXL to $99, and the 2DS to $69.

I literally went out and bought a huge floor lamp with a bendable frame to play my GBA back in 2001. I had it sitting next to my bed and would have it bent all the way over, pointing face down, with it's 100W bulb blazing away an inch from my head for hours while playing games.

When the GBA SP launched, it was like pennies from heaven.

I hope they bring the Gameboy name back. That would make the product instantly successful.
