The Super Bowl is far and away the most viewed Television broadcast in the United States, year in and year out, no other program comes remotely close.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Super_Bowl_TV_ratings

I guarantee that hypothetical 25% number far exceeds the 100% number on Nickelodeon. On a good day for Nickelodeon, they'll get 2-3 million people watching their shows that run 30 minutes, vs. over 100 million people watching the Super Bowl for 3 hours.
So, by the wild chance that those 25% and 100% numbers are accurate that's 2-3 million kids for some random episode of Spongebob Squarepants vs. over 25 million kids for the biggest sporting event of the year for the entire country.

Yes, it will cost them a lot of money, but when you have a product that is generating healthy momentum and has a chance to really take off, the potential payoff and reward FAR exceed the cost. They'd be foolish not to take the chance.

How many of those viewers are children watching the commercial.

How many of those viewers are dude bros watching that when they see the commercial for this react like some of the users on this site.

It could be bad publicity it gets if it airs. I really can't see the appeal of this coming across to millions of viewers in only 30 seconds. Heck, we got a 3 minute long video and we had to do a fair bit of research to understand it all.

The reaction has to this has been mostly positive and the people who have reacted negatively either can't read or didn't pay attention to the "specifically built for kids and kids at heart" part to comprehend that they are not the targeted audience. Look, I'm not the target audience, but this is a very neat concept.
Yeah, I'll admit, getting the appeal across in 30 seconds is going to be a challenge, but that's also what an extended cut can do, the Switch's Super Bowl Commercial - Extended Cut is one of their most viewed videos on YouTube.
They have 2 and half weeks to come up with something good, that's enough time. Like I said, the potential payoff and reward far exceeds the cost. If there's a chance of Labo becoming their next blockbuster hit, and reactions, pre-order rankings, and a sharp boost the Nintendo's stock all say it does, they should use their best marketing resources and take advantage of the opportunities available to them to make it happen.

Jeez reading some of these negative comments really irritate me. I can see that some don’t like the idea or don’t care for it. But to categorize this product as if only Japanese or people with “issues” can find this attractive is demeaning. There have been a lot of comments (outside of this forum) in regards to Nintendo Labo and parents appear to have great interest in it, especially since their kids are convinced already. What’s wrong with that? If it’s not for you then so be it. Nintendo isn’t gonna lose sleep if someone, outside of the groups this particular product is aiming for, isn’t interested.

How much will the PS4 sell lifetime?

I dont think its impossible to achieve similar results.

Also the PS4 is not the handheld replacement. The Vita is the Flop, not the PS4. Nintendo merged their consoles, they just do one currently. Sony replaced their handheld buisness with VR, we will see how this will turn out in the long run ;)

But if their VR buisness wont be able to move similar numbers to the PSP in the future, yeah, that will be a flop.

I going to make it even more simple, if the PS4 doesn't reach 158 million sales, will it be considered a flop. Disregarding handhelds, but purely basing it off previous install bases. With that, do you consider the PS3 a flop? I'm trying to understand the logic here.

ps3 was a flop compared to ps2, yes.

its a great concept for sure and its a great way of cutting down on the prices for peripherals

Millions of families sit down and watch the Super Bowl together.

Remember its not just kids its trying to reach but parents as well.

The day has come Nintendo is writing its name on some cardbox and selling you high, and people will buy it, damn that was a joke guys!
The concept with the aim for young kids is great, but it's fucking cardboard, cardboard for $70, it's shameful, I don't even...
The greed has no bounds.

$60 for the game. $10 for the cardboard. Also the cardboard parts are free to print yourself.

I think that there are an awful lot of people (I'm not just aiming at VGC users, here) that just aren't understanding the whole "For kids and the kids at heart" concept.  It's pretty simple, really.  If you aren't a kid, or a kid at heart, or a parent with young children...this isn't meant for you, it isn't being marketed towards you and there is zero reason to talk about how stupid the concept is because you aren't interested in it.

The concept came from way out in left field, I agree.  Who would have ever seen something this zany coming, even from Nintendo?  But, it's pure genius.

This is a perfect idea for parents who spend time with their kids doing arts and crafts, to then be able to combine these "science projects" with technology in a way such as this.  The added ability for kids to color or put decals on their projects to really make them their own vs them coming with pre-determined designs/colors is cool.  I'm not saying there certainly will be, but there could be huge potential for these "Toy-con" to advance and grow through all sorts of different ideas.  Looking at what they've already thought of, hopefully the only limit is imagination on the part of Nintendo, or 3rd parties that may come up with some innovative ideas that Nintendo doesn't.

Also, on a side note.  This project is not taking away from time spent on developing the "gamer's games".  The teams responsible for triple A titles like Metroid or Mario are not doing Labo mini games software and in turn delaying those bigger games.  That's just ridiculous.

Actually children aren’t interested in this at all. A kid knows more the value of cardboard. Garbage. But some people who are mature enough would be more interested unfortunatetly. People with “issues”. And Nintendo knows that. So actally this whole idea is very pathetic I insist, plus thinking in somebody else mental issues just because some weird idea.

User warned -RavenXtra

I'm a teacher who works with kids in primary school. Last year I bought a bunch of my old cardboard boxes into school one day and we had a construction session where they build themed train stations out of them. And they absolutely loved it; it was probably the best session we had all last year. Kids love cardboard. Kids love building and decorating.

And it's quite sad that you feel the need to belittle people who enjoy things you do not as having "mental issues".

Can we retire this "$70 for cardboard" meme? Apart from getting old, it's straight up untrue. It's $70 for a video game with a set of peripherals, which is fairly standard pricing.

Yeah but it's Nintendo so if they want to sell you cardboard at the price of gold, people will pay and think they bought diamonds. So this is embarrassing indeed but not for Nintendo, they are the ones who will cash in on all their naive customers.

And I thought the Switch was weak from a point of view of processing power, now all those who say that such power is not what matters the most in video games are going to be very happy cause yeah, cardboard LOL.

$70 is a pretty typical price for a video game + a bundled peripheral. Pretty sure Mario Kart Wii + the Wii Wheel and Wii Fit + the Balance Board were priced similarly.

If it's $70 for Zelda plus it, sure, if it's $70 for some random shit to pass as a game as 1 2 Switch to sell it, it's $70 for cardboard, which is exactly what it is right now.

$70 for some random shit game (In your opinion) like 1-2 Switch + Cardboard.

If you think that's overpriced that's fine. Just don't lie and say that it's just cardboard. It's not. Even in your own opinion it's cardboard  + a shit game.
