Forums - Sales Discussion - The Nintendo Switch sold over 110k units in December for South Korea

Source

Rough translation:

Daewon Media, a domestic distributor of Nintendo Switch consoles in Korea, said that 110,000 units were sold in December. In addition to this, the sales of Nintendo's pop-up store and specialty retail stores totaled 710 million won. It has been a remarkable achievement in the domestic market, as opposed to the release of the console 9 months later in Korea than overseas, along with the lack of localization for certain games and other negative factors.

EDIT: Hey guys, I was slightly vague with this thread post, so let me clear some things up.

  • The Switch launched in South Korea on December 1st. So it wasn't released in North Korea (yet?) These figures are just for South Korea.
  • Yes, these are very good sales figures for the Switch. I don't know how 110k stacks up against other Nintendo console launches in South Korea, but the 55k in 3 days figure given a while back has indeed been a record for Nintendo for South Korea.
Please correct me if any information is wrong ^^ thanks in advance.

Hopefully Switch sees good success in the rest of the world, it's definitely a market Nintendo has room to grow in.

That's honestly better than expected for me.

I have no doubt Switch shipments by the end of 2017 are close to 15 million worldwide.

It just launched there!?

Why does Korea draw the short stick?

Korea getting the short stick? It still has not launched in China yet. Localization and working with Korean government are the two biggest reasons for the delayed launch.

This is an amazing start for Nintendo and Switch considering lines were absurd to illegally import Switch months ago. I honestly figured the console would have a slower start because the people that wanted it probably already imported it. I was happily mistaken.

I read somewhere today that it sold 55k in 3 days what other Nintendo consoles sold in a month.

So, 55k for the first 3 days and about the same for the rest of the month.

To be honest, i have no idea if that's good (if you take into account the line-up). Hope so!

Thats actually a good number! Its good for the Switch and the future of Nintendo that it grows its brand awareness and overall sales potential outside of its strong markets.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Great numbers for the Switch! Hope it will be released in China soon!
