No, 3ds no need to be dropped entirely , both 3ds and Switch can co-exist together, i own both so which system have the game is fine to me. I use many 3ds games sales last year to show if Metroid sell around 500.000 is bad then all 3ds games last year sold bad too, but sales of all games are acceptable then so is Metroid. Metroid Prime Trilogy failing, i'm not sure about the exact reason but one of them is Metroid 1 & 2 were on GC and Wii was backward compatible with GC games and controls. Many gamers also dislike motion control so after they bough Prime 3, they have no reason to repurchase 1 & 2 with motion control. But i can agree with Snoorlax one thing: low sales is what make people have to wait a quite long time for a new proper Metroid game

Well, you kinda tried to downplay the sales of other 3DS games without looking to the context in our discussion, it's easy to get the wrong idea from that.  3DS doesn't need to be dropped at all, what it needs is actual support from Nintendo, unlike what happened in 2017.

Metroid Prime is an anomaly among Nintendo's IPs, they don't have anything else similar to it and is one of their few game that can actually attract non-Nintendo gamers, the marketing push that the company is willing to give the game will be crucial for its sales. Living in a country where Nintendo is almost a non-existent now, I can't tell how it was for Prime Trilogy.

I love my 3DS and all but it's time to move on. 7 years is more than enough for a Nintendo system, especially a handheld that's clearly underpowered in this day and age. Don't get me wrong I will buy upcoming remastered games like SMT, and especially a new 2.5D Metroid game but Nintendo needs to start let go and focus on Switch.

Well, you said like there was none Nintendo game for 3ds in 2017. Not only that, some third party games were published by Nintendo in English for 3ds last year. After all, 3ds is 7 years old already and Switch is a portable also

Etrian Odyssey and Persona Q 2 still didn't come out yet, Nintendo can let 3ds go but not Atlus and some third parties

I think Nintendo's focus on Switch already is more than enough, and big games on 3DS are still selling well, there is no reason to pull the plug just because a new console was released, specially when that console isn't even a proper replacement for it.

No, I said that the games developed by Nintendo and released in 2017 were trash with zero effort put on them, if you don't count Intelligent Systems FE: Shadow of Valentia, I think the only games released with an actual effort put in them were Style Savvy 4 and Bye Bye Box Boy! from Hal Laboratory, stellar lineup... And Switch is a handheld, but in its current form is not exactly a good portable device.

I dissagree, i think the Switch is the proper replacement for both console and handheld lines. Sure the 3DS can continue to get good games but it should slowly die imo. BTW we're really getting off topic here aren't we... Not that it's anything uncommon for a Metroid thread.

Why don't count Fire Emblem Echoes? You count Style Savvy 4 and Bye Bye Box Boy! so no reason, all are Nintendo games and they weren't made by Nintendo develop team. Switch came out last year, right? What Nintendo game GBA got when DS came out? Or DS when 3DS was released? Current form of Switch can be put on a big pocket, you know. Just separate two joy-cons and screen then boom, it can fit my pocket

We'll agree to disagree then, and yeah, we've strayed too far from the topic.

Not counting Fire Emblem had more to do with it beign a remake than with Intelligent Systems status, but you made a good point, if we're only talking about Nintendo's own studios then they didn't release a single good game for 3DS in 2017. Mother 3 launched for GBA in 2006, that game alone puts to shame anything released this year for 3DS. And those are some huge-ass pockets you're talking about, what about if I want to play with an actual D-pad? Don't tell me you stuff a pro controller in the other pocket too, not to mention that with the joy-cons attached the damn thing is close in size with the Wii U gamepad, you know, the one that was often compared with a brick.

Mother 3 is Japan only, typical game like this need to understand story, not just gameplay. Also, how about DS? All efforts of outsource projects and localized some JP games last year should not count. Sony is even worse not only vita but psp also although psp sold quite good. Mother 3 puts to shame anything released this year for 3DS? WOW, i didn't know Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux, Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology, Etrian Odyssey and Persona Q 2 are just shovelware
