Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Mario Maker Sequel?

I'd be happy for a mere port at this point. There are so many cool Mario Maker levels out there that really should be made available to Switch owners. Why Nintendo didn't release a Switch version right after launch is beyond me.

A sequel with an added 3D World mode would be pretty cool.

I expect a Mario Maker Deluxe or whatever they want to call it.

the answer of why they didn't immediately release a port is probably a couple of reasons. One, you don't want to oversaturate your system with 'Mario' games and help enforce a false (semi popular) narrative that Nintendo only releases colorful platformer games. B, Nintendo wants to spread out their releases. No point in rushing out all of the easy ports to the first 12 or 16 months and then having few easy options later on. And, C, it's highly possible Nintendo will be working on a sequel that employs the Joycons/Switch functionality uniquely. Obviously a direct port of Wii U Mario Maker might be a bit awkward given that it was one of the few Wii U games heavy on employing the Gamepad.

I'm personally hoping for the latter option, a sequel of sorts. Like a 1/2 sequel, Splatoon 2 sort of thing. Not a massively changed game, but just added features and visuals possibly

On top of the multiplyer aspect of it of creating and sharing levels, I would like an original fUll fledged 2D adventure that uses a new artstyle. So in another words, a strong single player and multiplayer in one package.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

If they make a Super Mario Maker sequel (which I hope they will do) I do hope that they bring with it a brand new art-style (and one that is gorgeous of course). The New Super Mario Bros. art-style is ugly as hell.

Slopes. It needs slopes.

Love and tolerate.

Before Mario Maker 2 I want a New Super Mario World with cartoonized graphics.

It'll happen. I think this is what 2D Mario will be from now on.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)

A sequel needs better ways to search for levels, and a way to build your own entire 2D Mario game using the engine provided. Also, bigger worlds allowed, and more themes. Levels should be three or four times as big as the limit that the first one put on people.

Don't worry about Mario Maker, it will come eventually. Once Nintendo's online service is up and running, I think that's truly when Nintendo will try and enforce people to succumb to their paid service, provided that they are still on board with it. Mario Maker would be a good incentive alongside what they already have, though they're going to need more.

I agree what you said, to avoid the 'port' stigma they'd probably call it "Mario Maker for the Nintendo Switch" with heaps of added content. It's still an enhanced port but Nintendo would try to avoid labeling it as that. Not on the level of Splatoon 2 as being a unique game, however (as Splatoon 2 did have all of its assets upgraded). If not, we could expect them to just call it Mario Maker 2.

I was hoping they'd avoid oversaturating their consoles with Mario games, and right now with the Switch there's no telling if they've learned yet, as so far we have seen a new Mario Tennis game being developed already. But I'll give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt as it is being developed by Camelot. Camelot really needs to stop creating all these Mario sports games. Hopefully, they'll take a break and revive Golden Sun or hell, Shining Force. If this Mario Tennis game is mediocre I hope it's the final nail in the coffin. The only Mario franchises that deserve to exist are 3D Mario, Mario Kart and Mario Maker. Right now Paper Mario is postponed so I doubt we'll see a new Switch game anytime soon, probably a remaster at best.
