I haven't played a Dragon Quest game since the NES when it was Dragon Warrior, but the design choices made since then are relatively charming. I'll probably pick up XI too.

The first Dragon Warrior should be renamed Grinding Warrior. Holy fuck was that the mother of all grinding games. Kill enemy, run around in a square, kill enemy, run around in a square (two hours later) ok... ready to continue game now.

Fuck...

Yeah, hasn't aged so well with all the games that have come since.  Still at the time, I was into it.  Beat it twice.  After that, I start it, get through the first bit of the game, and then quit. ha.  Too much else to play.

I HATE DRAGON QUEST!

because Hideaki Togashi is addicted to it and he keeps stalling the writing of hunter x hunter :(

Dragon Warrior required grinding yes, but I don't remember it standing out as any worse than Final Fantasy back in the day when I first beat them both.

You are not forgiven lol. Good title drew me in for the read.

I'm going to have to buy Dragon Quest Builders.   I played through the demo for over an hour before it ended and got invested.  I wasn't expecting to like it too much but it was relaxing, and I like creation aspects to games.  I like that there is quite a bit of story element and the graphics and enemy options are much more developed than Minecraft, it's mature counterpart.  Sleeper hit?  Guilty pleasure?  I don't know, but I foresee this taking a bit more of my time than some of the more obvious choices.

Although Minecraft was a massive sleeper hit, I think the chances of DQ Builders being a sleeper hit are impossibly slim given it’s a port of a spin-off that most fans have already played. Sleeper hits tend to be fresh concepts on original releases.

I am still very glad to have the game on Switch, but I think it is more of a warmup for DQ11.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I played the first Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy on NES and I found Dragon Warrior the more "grindy" of the two.

Final Fantasy is BY FAR the more grindy of the two, even with the fire exploit in the north of the pirate town. There's more grinding in Final Fantasy 1 before the first fiend then there is in all of Dragon Warrior. Granted, the first Dragon Warrior is an overall shorter game, but it's not particularly grindy for games of its time, especially when compared to Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star.

I just have no creativity, when it comes to building stuff in games. I usually just stay away from stuff like that, like i did with settlement building in Fallout 4.

I downloaded the demo and my son saw it now keeps asking when I will buy dragon minecraft. I must ask do you guys think its as easy to pick up and play as minecraft is? (my son is 6 btw) edit: nvm I just saw there is no co-op  which will result in fights

I ended up grinding more in Dragon Warrior.
