Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Prediction: Switch will get 20+ JRPGs to score 80 or higher on Metacritic in its lifetime.

No, I'm not counting action RPGs that happen to be made in Japan like Dark Souls. Games like Ys VIII and Xenoblade count, since they are very much JRPGs.  Each Poke'mon entry will only count once, regardless of Nintendo always releasing 2-3 versions of the same Poke'mon game. Fire Emblem games aren't going to be counted towards this, but Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be. DragonQuest builders doesn't count, because it's more of a minecraft type of game. Digital-Only releases of games to the e-Shop don't count either.

Persona 5 will eventually get a portable Switch edition.

Falcom's Legend of Heroes series will come to Switch.

There's still a big market for portable RPGs out there. 3DS has a massive JRPG library, and now it looks like all that JRPG goodness has nowhere to go but Switch. Games like Octopath, YS VIII, SMTV, and Valkyria Chronicles 4 show that JRPG devs are already making the transition.

Willing to bet P5 is not coming to Switch... they already said it wasn't.

Also don't think they will pull 20.

I honestly think that's a low number.

Edit: On second thoughts maybe not, I guess I overestimated how well JRPG's review. I was expecting not far off 20 on the Vita, looking on metacritic there was only really 4...

persona 4: golden
FF x/x2
Ys: Memories of Celceta
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

I can see that. With Y's coming to the Switch, I fully expect the console to become the defacto machine for niche JRPGs. The 80+ metacritic scores would be a possible since only JRPG enthusiasts would bother to review these niche games.

How is 20 remotely bold if we're talking lifetime ? The Switch will soon start getting most of the games that used to come out on Vita (heck, it already started with Ys VIII and Dragon Quest Builders)

I thought the same until I realised only 4 JRPG's on the vita got above 80 on metacritic.

The vast majority are below.

You mean this tweet? http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/01/persona_5_will_not_be_coming_to_the_switch

They said that before the Switch became a sales powerhouse. The tweet was mostly a reaction to people asking for PC versions of P5, and Yakuza 0. Persona 3, and 4 both got portable versions. There's definitely going to be a Switch version.

That's lowballing it by quite a bit. It will basically get all of the ports. All FF games, all DQ games, all Ys games, all FE games, all other Square Enix games from the SNES and PS1 and whatever Nintendo JRPGs are left. The 3DS alone has like 16 80+ JRPGs that have yet to be ported.

Let's say 30 is the absolute minimum.

So if Pokemon releases say......Earth and Sky, that is one.

What if they release a Emerald/Platinum esc bettered version later, a Stars or Seas or something.

.....I suck at false game titles.

The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?

Not counting DQ Builders, or Fire Emblem games. Also, not counting games without a physical release. Otherwise I'd have to go back and list all those DS/GBA digital-only ports to the 3DS.
