Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Duke controller price tag

$70 is more than fair for such a product. Nothing unusual for gaming controllers really.

I'm starting to feel like I've slipped into an alternate universe.

Look at the placement of the White and Black buttons. How can anyone like this thing? Seriously. Terrible controller. Uncomfortable, tiny, and horrible button placement.

That was an amazing controller. Best of it's era.

Give me a faithful recreation of the S controller and the 360 controller for Xbox One and I will buy four of each just because of backwards compatibility.
But also make them wireless with AA battery support.
The Duke doesn't even remotely interest me. Worst controller of all time in my opinion.

Id agree, its up there as one of the worst controllers ever made, I am kind of glad I missed that Xbox era, I mean look at its ancestor. Probably my worst controller iv ever used, and I have heard the Sega Saturn controller is even worse.

<SNIP>

Used the Dreamcast controller before, it's more comfortable to hold than the Duke IMHO.
The single Analogue stick gives it the same issue as the N64 controller though, but probably worst as the pad lacks a few extra buttons.

The irony is though... The S controller was probably the best controller of that console generation... And Microsoft retained that advantage well into the 360 era in my opinion.

I can't say as I ever played any Xbox games that used the Black and White buttons for anything important though, just bringing up a minimap and things of that sort. Meanwhile, it moved the 4 main face buttons into the diamond pattern that all 3 main controllers today use (XB1, PS4, Switch), the often criticized heavy weight of the Duke was lowered, and the ergonomics were improved to make it a bit smaller and more comfortably shaped. From an ergonomic standpoint it is still the most comfortable controller I have ever held because it was built for medium-sized hands like mine, not for small hands like the Dual Shock 1, 2, and 3, or huge hands like the Duke. If they were to re-release the S today with some bumpers replacing the black and white buttons and that cool start-up sequence playing OLED screen that this Duke remake has, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

BTW, you call the S tiny, it is actually bigger than any of the 3 controllers we have today; XB1, PS4, and Switch Pro.

I can easily reach the Square Button (DS4), X Button (XB1), and Y button (SW) with my left thumb. Now imagine trying to hit the white and black buttons with your right thumb if you have hands my size. Do you know how incredibly uncomfortable that is? When I bought the original 3DS. I literally couldn't play it for more than few minutes without it become increasingly uncomfortable. I ultimately put it away until the XL was release because it was damn near unusable for me in long stretches. The Duke was comfortable for someone like me. I understand that it was ungainly for people with smaller hands but the same is true for the Controller S with larger hands. Primary input buttons should not be under my right palm on a controller.

The Duke was such a horrible controller. I mean, they changed it for a reason.
