Basing my comments below off of how Nintendo handled the Wii, WiiU, and 3DS OS improvements, I expect the following.

  • Bluetooth headphone support?
    • Not coming until future models.
  • Wallpapers/Themes
    • Likely coming.
  • Built in voice chat
    • Likely coming in 2019. I don't think they delayed the online for Switch so they could improve the odd separate app idea. I think they are going to drop that entirely and provide an internal app.
  • Web browser
    • Coming 2018
  • Netflix and other streaming services
    • Coming 2018
  • Folders
    • Coming 2018
  • Lock screen password/PIN
    • Already there? You login when you select your first game/app then it keeps you logged in until you logout. Though they could/should add a feature that forces re-login when switch sleeps. Though I'm basing this off of how it works for me with multiple people's accounts in my system. I am not sure how it works if you only have one account.
  • Camera
    • Not coming. Don't see as important though I'm betting a revision will have one.
  • Backwards compatibility
    • Not coming until future models as they will share the same OS.
  • Downloadable library of old games
    • Coming.
  • Cross Console purchases
    • Not coming until future models as they will share the same OS.
  • Messages (textual?)
    • Why? Just include social media support. Quit building new locked messaging systems when others exist that are far superior. MiiVerse was cute due to the drawing aspect though you can do that via any other social media and the other thing they created on mobile demonstrated that people just want to use FB, IG, SC, TW, etc. All that is needed is a game invite for friends and voice. Textual chat should be normal social media.
  • (+) Simple Friend Mechanism
    • Not coming.
    • Nintendo needs to stop being a nanny. The current system is better than previous, but still is more cumbersome than necessary. Just have a family account with parental controls as an option. Let parents, parent.
I do think that with the move to a more permanent OS structure (in all 3 companies) we'll see far better launches in future systems that are already fully featured and simply continue with yearly new features/updates similar to iOS/Android. (i.e. new consoles will no longer have fully new OS)
Though I want to reiterate the beginning of your OP. Games are all that really matter. ZeldaBOTW plus a good variety of other fun and awesome games are the primary reason Switch is doing so well. The hardware is awesome and a plus and the bare minimum OS just proves the point.

True but Switch could use ome Persona 4,Dragon's Crown and SoldnerX-2 personally. I'd buy them a second and 4th time (DC)

Oh no i can't watch netflix, if only i had 9 other devices to watch it on

Because Netflix is the only thing listed in the OP, right?

Also, just because it doesn't apply to you doesn't mean somebody doesn't want to use it. Maybe you bought the Switch for your 7 year old daughter and she wants to watch Trolls.

I agree. I mean, I got a vita around release? I dont remember. The technology was great. Considering it came out in 2012, the switch coming in 2017, I get it, no excuse. Game designers aren't working on system software. It should have been better than it is.

Too bad vita didn't go with 4g instead of 3g, and from what i remember, everyone was excited for the vita, until those memory card prices got revealed. Pretty sure that single handedly killed support for the thing.

Oh well. I think an even more powerful vita would make a perfect companion to a sony console. Maybe the Switch will lead sony to a 3rd handheld.

If I hadn't gotta a switch 100 dollars discounted, I still wouldn't own one. However, regardless of what the vita is, the only thing that really bothers me about the switch is that I cannot use the screen while it's connected to a TV. I wish something somewhere had been done differently to accommodate that. Maybe if the dock was more than what it was today.

Of all of that stuff the virtual console still missing at this stage is crazy

So 5 to 10 hours in one session without recharging ain't enough for you when you are away of your home? Then connect a slim power bank (10 - 15 aH) and you are at 20 - 30 hours. It is just a cable, not more annoying than a headphone cable.

It's not for me, indeed. It's bad enough that my own mobile phone can't even sustain a whole day, I don't understand people who are happy with a 5-hour device. It just means unless you play in very short sessions that you'll have to plug it in once a day, or even more than once. Even without taking it outside home, my 3DS would die after two sessions, forcing me to plug it in - because of the way plugs are in my house, that's incredibly inconvenient. Had to carry the laptop's charger everytime I went to class because my laptop can't last more than 5 hours with medium brightness, and that's just terrible.

Having to own a power bank and carry it around to cover for the terrible battery life of these devices is an inconvenience that highlights how bad they are, even if it is a solution of some sort. Like I said, it doesn't fit my lifestyle, and if I have to keep them plugged everyday might as well take the home console option, with a nice big screen and a more comfortable controller. And even then I can't escape terrible battery life sometimes, such as the WiiU Gamepad dying more often than not.

EDIT: I sent this to a friend today. I think it sums me up pretty well:

That picture should also have some latency issues, connectivity issues, ect.

Heck, when playing Xenoblade 2, whenever I am doing the salvaging, I undock my system and do it in handheld mode. Not because its a mindless task and want to watch tv at same time. No, I do it because there seems to be a latency difference when controllers connected to handheld or not. Or maybe its the visuals being sent to the tv versus on the handheld.

But I can hit every button prompt perfectly when in handheld mode, but when its docked and on the tv, I always seem to miss and have to consciously click earlier than I want to.

You won't find a competitive gamer on PC using wireless keyboards or mice in that same regard.

Well, the Vita was always an excellent piece of hardware, with a lot of great features. unfortunately, it just never really got the right support and marketing to make it a real success. The Vita in general is one of the the most notable cases of wasted potential in video game history.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that General Grievous blew a 4-1 lightsaber advantage against Obi Wan Kenobi in a battle on Utapau.

I adore the Switch, but it's definitely perplexing to me that virtually none of those online features have been implemented yet. If there's one gaping hole on the Switch, it's the lack of something akin Miiverse, the lone feature from the Wii U that pretty much everyone adored. I get that you want to leave the Mii and Wii names behind, but just rename the damn service! lol

It's very hard to wrap one's head around how they could be so inept after all these years in that area, and it's definitely the one area that threatens to hold the console back if they never rectify it.

I won't speak to the Vita, though, as that just seems like a flawed and unnecessary comparison to me. This criticism stands without it.

Vita is the console that wished it had nintendo games...

But yeah vita is a beast for a handheld!
