They're the same game with different approaches, the PS4 version is similar to DQVIII while the 3DS version is similar to DQIX only without the multiplayer aspects.

Are you sure it's really the same game? Looking at screenshots, they look like entirely different games built in the same world with the same skeleton.

Go watch videos of both games it's the same game with different 3d approach.

They aren't ports of the same game, though. It's clearly a separate engine (likely the one for the earlier 3DS remakes) that the PS4 version was re-made in. People have always separated a lot of handheld/console versions of games that are similarly based on the same design but made from scratch.

I think it's possible, not sure with the Switch version as well though

They're still the same game, same story,  same world, same characters etc... the only difference is the 3d approach as that's how the game was conceived to have two versions as the series itself has two very different approaches in its game, just go read the developer's statements. The 3DS version is also the version that is the remade one as it's concept came after, the PS4 game is based on DQVIII's approach while the 3DS game is based on the other game's approach.

Either way they're the same game.

Except they aren't. They're two separately created games with entirely different code using the same world, story and characters.

I was going to say it's arbitrary to compare Splatoon 2 to both DQXI releases combined, but then I realized this entire comparison is arbitrary, especially since they aren't even in the same genre, lol

Accept it or not it doesn't change that they are as that's how DQXI was created, Dead Rising on Wii uses a different code and engine doesn't stop it being the same game.

Arbitrary how exactly? The sales comparison is seeing how Splatoon 2 measure's up to DQ's popularity in Japan I think you're well on the wrong track here.

It completely makes it a separate game. This is purely a semantics argument. It doesn't change that they aren't 1:1 the same thing.

Except they are in every aspect with only the graphical approach being different like it or not they're the same game built for 2 different platforms.

That's like saying Sonic the Hedgehog on the Master System and on the Mega Drive are the same game.

Except those games have differences in the levels and how they play out DQXI doesn't, literally the only difference in DQXI is that one is played using a classic isometric view the other is played using the modern third person view point.

You're playing the same game using different graphical pov if you don't agree then agree to disagree as this is not what this thread is even about.
