It really isn't. That's not a weak showing at all. PS4 and Xbox One don't get exclusives or mega AAA Releases any more often than that.

And Q1 is always sort of light. PS4's Q1 last year was the exception, not the rule. Generally speaking, game releases are huge in April/May, and Sept-Dec.

PS4/Xbone are constantly getting new major third party games though, Switch isn't.

They weren't at the early point of the life many of the games at that point were remasters and ports especially from third parties.

Indeed they were, and they rightly caught flak for that. It wouldn't be fair then for me to give Nintendo a free pass for the same thing.

Hmm. As short as it lasted, I liked happy curl-6 better than pessimistic curl-6.

I can see why you'd think the eShop software is disappointing. These 2D pixel art games are everywhere and most of them look lackluster plus all the NeoGeo games really don't interest me but I enjoy the Wii U ports since ive never played them and I really hope for a smash bros port soon.

Decline is imminent. Once people wake up and realize that Nintendo is selling an overpriced gadget and tired franchises, it will all come crashing down for Nintendo.

I completely agree. This is the reason Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were universally panned. Then there's the recent Pokemon Sun and Moon, by far the worst games in the series.

As long as Nintendo keep pushing out brand new games to go alongside the remasters and ports, then there's no real problem to be seen

That's the thing though, they're not pushing out enough brand new games; Kirby and Mario Tennis are all they've confirmed for Q1-2, that's a very weak showing.

You forgot that Nintendo has one major advantage over it’s competitors, great exclusives with great legs. We may talk about forst half of 2018, that doesn’t mean that 2017’s games won’t keep selling the system. All they need now is to keep a steady flow of release with some big titles places in the right release window and they won’t lose their momentum.

If you feel left out with what’s been unveiled for Q1-Q2, I’m pretty sure you don’t have to worry, there’s other thing not showned that might come sooner than we think. Just look at 2017, Nintendo made a direct every months except march and december, who knows, maybe we’ll be surprised by a FE direct next month with info and release date in Q2 for their new title. That’s what they did last year.

Let me see how many ports I can name think of off the top of my head for PS4...

De Blob 2, Devil May Cry Collection, Shadow of the Colossus (third time in three generations this is releasing), Payday 2, LA Noire, Uncharted Collection, Crash Trilogy, Ratchet and Clank, GTA V, The Last of Us, Skyrim, Borderlands, Injustice, Kingdom Hearts Collection x2, Final Fantasy 10 remaster, there's a Ni No Kuni on the way I think?, Bioshock Collection, Assassin's Creed Collection, God of War III I think, Assassin's Creed Rouge, Dishonored, I think stick of Truth maybe, Tearaway, Gravity Rush.

I'm actually not a fan of all the remasters, but it's not a Nintendo thing.

Shadow of the Colossus and Crash Trilogy are both remakes, Ratchet & Clank and Tearaway are both reimaginings ...

Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch and Stick of Truth have not been announced to come to PS4 either ...

Stick of Truth was thrown in Free and playable immediately when you pre-ordered Fractured but Whole on the PS4, it worked out well for me since I wanted both games.

It's not that there are too many ports, the problem is that there isn't enough original content. Yes, Nintendo's output has been nothing less than stellar last year, but third parties have been sleeping and haven't brought anything new or worthwhile to the Switch.

Apart from the beautiful Project Octopath, Is there even one new third party game announced for 2018?

Not sure if 2018, but Shin Megami Tensei HD.

And some of us like to play games they never could play before on other platforms. And it's not like ports prevent new games to be released. Most of the ports we had on the Switch are ports that were released in the same time on the other consoles, I don't see the problem, if third party companies wants to released their remastered versions on another platform, that's pretty cool and not a bad thing.

Skyrim Remastered was released on the Switch as it was released on the PS4/Xbox One
L.A. Noire was released on 3 platform in the same day
Payday 2 Remastered was also released on 3 platform

And so will be Dark Souls.

I was more upset when I saw the AC Rogue One Remastered ad with no mention of a Switch version.

If third party support comes with ports then new games, I'm ok with it. And that's what Bethesda is doing. Doom wasn't a PS360 port, and neither Wolfenstein II will.

It's a problem when a platform only has two significant new games in the first six months of the year, the rest all being recycled games or other low tier content.

Look at PS4 int the beginning. Tomb Raider, Skyrim, GTA V, Last of US - the PS4 was the pinnacle of recycled content. The lack of great new games led to Sony PR pushing The Order above what it was. If it had been marketed as a proper mid- to low-level game (which it was) the backlash wouldn't have been that big. But as PR painted it as major AAA-title the people were disappointed. Sony would've never done that, if they had proper AAA-material to show. Nintendo has looked at that. Ports work.

Malstrom's Parody #17 (for those who don't know who Sean Malstrom is, he predicted Wii's success, WiiU flopping and Switch succeeding)

Does wanting to buy Switch games make your wallet cry? Are Switch games too expensive for you? Well then, if you drive down to the Malstrom Mart, I have something for you…

It is a game console that will allow you to play cheaper versions of Switch games. The catch? You may miss a few things that you wouldn’t use anyway.

“How do I buy Switch games for a cheaper price?” you ask.

Buy a Wii U.

Above: It plays Switch games for less! Who knew this was Wii U’s secret feature?

Yes, folks, with a Wii U, you will be able to play almost ANY Switch game for a substantially cheaper price, and they gain financial value faster.

“But Malstrom, it is true you can play the Wii U game around the home outside the TV, but the Wii U is too bulky to be a true portable system.”

That’s OK, so is the Switch. But the Wii U does have a killer feature that the Switch doesn’t…

“What is this killer feature? I must know it!”

A functional D-pad!

Above: Look! A wonderful D-pad! Did you spend $80 to for a Switch Pro Controller to have a shitty D-Pad? Sucker! Now Nintendo will sell you half decade old games again for full price! Sucker! Sucker! Sucker!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It is available for the Wii U as the Switch offers no real advantage over the Wii U version.

On one part of a hill, the Switch was able to maintain 30fps while the Wii U struggled, but in some ruins the situation was flipped. Digital Foundry hypothesizes that this is due to a “hidden bottleneck” and could suggest that the game’s open world is partitioned differently on both platforms.

-Kotaku

Sure, the DLC is separate, but the money you save from buying this edition, plus the DLC, is still cheaper than the Switch version. “But Battle Mode!” With Mario Kart 8 physics? Bah hahahaha!

Switch version: 1280 x 720p

Wii U version: 960 x 720p

Switch price: $60

Wii U price: $25ish

Switch Version: $60 New

Wii U Version: $20 New

Difference between Switch and Wii U versions? Breath of the Wild outfits in Switch version!

Can someone open the door? I must rush out, RIGHT NOW, to buy Hyrule Warriors for the Switch because of the addition of Breath of the Wild costumes. Hold me, reader. It is too much! OMG!

Price? Switch is $60. Wii U version is still around $25. The difference more than covers the DLC cost… if you even want it. Hell, it is $40 on the 3DS with all the DLC (minus BoW clothing, OMG, BoW clothing, hold open the door for me reader…).

Switch price: $60

Wii U price: $30-??? (this one can go up)

Wii U version includes BOTH GAMES ON PHYSICAL MEDIA. Switch version only has Bayonetta 2 with 1 as a ‘download option’.

Wii U: get a physical version.

Switch: download only

Switch: Pay $60.

Wii U: $18 New

The real question is what Switch games exist that aren’t ports of the Wii U. Mario Odyssey and… Kirby? Fire Emblem Warriors… (snore).

How about a PS4 port, reader?

“Sure, Malstrom, that’ll be just fine…”

Switch: $60

Any other Version: $30 or less…

How about a Xbox 360 port to go along with that?

“Of course! And I will sing praises to the publisher for allowing me to pay full price for a game that came out half a decade ago…”

Switch: $60

Xbox 360: $10

Be a savvy customer and save your wallet! Buy a Wii U to play Switch games for a quarter of the price….

“But why doesn’t Nintendo port over the second best selling Wii U title for the Switch?”

Above: Strangely missing from the ports to Switch….

A good question, reader. It makes you think there is a reason for Nintendo to port EVERYTHING but 2d Mario…
