Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Thoughts on the Switch's current 2018 Q1-Q2 lineup?

Killer announcements and system sellers aren't a necessity right now as the Switch will continue to sell itself. However, I'm sure we'll see more anyway.

When not talking sales-wise, it's alright to me. I'm interested in Kirby (hopefully it's harder than the recent entries) and, surprisingly, Mario Tennis looks hopeful as well. Story mode is always a plus, but adding online will make it even better.

These were announcements. So that’s why they didn’t go into any of the games we already knew about. Yoshi, Wolfenstein, Fire Emblem, Pokemon, everything on the EShop upcoming list, etc...
They weren’t talking about the full lineup, just new announcements to it.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Those titles might be good for those who already have a console, but not sell it to new costumers.

Not a single system seller.

Well I mean, they already have Mario and Zelda.

True, but Switch can't live based on a few games - no matter how great.

Pretty chill. Might get Bayo and Kirby. Definitely getting Dark Souls.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Nothing stands out from that, but it's still early in the year, not to mention early in the console's life cycle so no reason to frown just yet.

Yeah, but the thing is less than a year old. I think people tend to be a bit hard on Nintendo. I get that ports and remasters aren't super exciting, but they're also kind of par for the course at this point. More than four years in, and something like half of PS4's best selling games are available on PS3 in some form. Persona 5 was one of my favorite PS4 games of last year, and even that has a competent and playable version on the PS3.

Switch had four bonafide smash-hits in 2017. Additionally, they launched two million seller new IPs. They did a good job getting evergreen third party games on the system quickly, like Stardew Valley, Minecraft, and Rocket League. Xenoblade 2 and Mario + Rabbids are solid games that round out the roster. Today's mini direct may not have been super exciting, but it deepens the bench on what is already a pretty strong lineup IMO.

Of course it is all about, "what have you done for me lately". We quickly forget that Prime 4 and Pokemon Switch were announced like half a year ago. And Bayonetta 3 was announced less than a month ago. Good stuff is coming.

I think Nintendo has got a lot more than this coming for the first half of the year. This is mostly physical release games that are coming Q1 and a few from Q2 also. I also expect a Nindie Showcase in February, and then another direct before E3 (probably in April).

Today what we saw was two new first party games: Kirby and Mario Tennis. Neither of those are heavy hitters. I expect Nintendo has at least a couple more new first party titles coming before E3. I also expect a lot more ports coming, especially Japanese 3rd party ports.

This direct was just to whet our appetite.

Great if you didnt own Wii u, but yeah no real new content. Of course there is still plenty of games.coming, namely Retros game? Pikmin 4? Metriod, pokemon to name a few!

as it stands, i think it's absolutely crap. it's almost entirely ports and indies. i will be getting Kirby but only after it goes down in price a bit.

Nothing!? :D

Full portable Dark Souls Remaster and full portable DKTF will easily sell some consoles. And you dont need to have huge system seller in evre quarter, it's more point to continue momentum with good and interesting games until another strong system seller game arrives.
