I thought it wouldn't come to this. I've put the creation of a thread based on that fact on hold for at least a couple of months, but now you ruin it with this.

Well, I have only myself to blame for postponing it for so long.

Sorry for stealing your thunder.  I've actually had posting this in mind for a while now as well.  I finally had a light day and decided to get to it.  Coincidentally, the same thing happened to me.  I've been meaning to create a thread regarding Nintendo Switch games by user play time, and then this happened:

Yep may be the first time...

It is also the first time we have the game of the generation being the same for 2 generations, that being The Last of Us... Sony is full of duplicates =p

By whose metric though?  Sales data is easy to quantify.  But, a "Game of the Generation" tag is very subjective.  I did a quick search though, and I didn't see the re-release of The Last of Us for PS4 on any "Game of the Generation" lists.

You should have missed VGC around 2013-4 when TLOU was declared the GOTG (Game of Two Generations) against Titanfall that was GotG of X1.

If you're counting remasters then we've actually had the same game of the generation for 3 generations, Final Fantasy X of course!

Well, I preffer FF IX, but since it wasn't launched on PS2 and not remastered, then I guess FF X counts as the GoTG (Game of Three Generations).

Are you prepared to argue that The Last of Us's impact on the PS360 generation was greater than the impact left by Call of Duty?

He's not only saying that, but that The Last of Us had the biggest impact on the entire PS4 generation.

Maybe? It seems to be an influence on God of War and Days Gone.

What has impact got to do with anything? Game of generation = best/most fun game of the generation.

No.

Game of the generation = game of the generation.

Best/most fun game of the generation = best/most fun game of the generation.

Saying it is the best game of PS3 and PS4. You guys really need to update your GOTY GOTG definitions.

Interesting enough, we talking about one of best games ever that will probably hit 100m.

Game of the generation = game of the generation.

Best/most fun game of the generation = best/most fun game of the generation.

Exactly. Game of the generation best/most fun game of the generation.

Just like game of the year = best/most fun game of the year.

For me, it's not enough that a 'game of the generation' is best/fun, there's another factor I look at: impact. In that arena, CoD 4 is without equal in the 7th gen.

GotG and GotY are two different things. Also, see my reply to Ka-pi96.

If you want to have your own definition go ahead
