It would have to try really really hard. The source material already sucks so the gameplay will look amazing next to it by default.

Are you some kind of hipster troll?! I wonder.

You don't know yet that Vivster downplays and seemingly hates everything?

All I know is it can't be worse than the original.

Yeah, I didn't like VII either. I don't know what your issues are, but for me, I couldn't get past the core gameplay, to the point I bailed so early I didn't know Aerith/Aeris died until years after the fact.

Nah, for that I like too many mainstream things.

Only the stuff that is terrible.

The gameplay is fine, it's the classic FF gameplay after all. Materia and stuff is fun. I just couldn't get over the lame story and unlikable characters throughout. But of course everyone loves it because boring MCs and emo antagonists are totally lit!

In terms of Europeans, it was the first FF game released here so it holds a place in many people's minds. I think it's general sales and popularity have scewed SquEnix thoughts about how popular it really is though as I'm sure, like me, you'd prefer a new FF over a remake of an older one, no? Imagine all this information we are getting for FF7R in a brand new FF game. Instead of people saying '"Oh, the gameplay sounds okay but it's not like the original. Why is it in 3 parts, the original was one game." People might be saying "Sounds great, I'll definitely buy it."

Hmm, pie.

Seems fake to me, especially after reading his other 'leaks' they just come across as detailed fan wishes. Reminds me of all the 'convincingly detailed' 'leaks' of SSB4 which of course all turned out to be fake. I wouldn't be shocked if neither Square Enix themselves or whoever they are outsourcing dev work to know what they're really doing yet.

What other leaks has he said?

Just follow the link in at the beginning of this thread, he also "leaks" FFXVI and FF Versus XV.

I felt that the random battles were obnoxious in their frequency. And paired with a battle system I didn't like too much. Even the loading screens, while solid for the era, contributed negatively in a small way. It's been almost 21 years, so it's a little difficult to appraise after so much time, but that's the gist. I have enjoyed JRPG's with random battles since then, it just came together in a way I couldn't enjoy in VII.

On the downside, dividing a single game into three independent chapters can kill immersion and leave each chapter feeling incomplete and unsatisfying. The story isn't rich enough.

They have to cater for the fact some people for some reason, might not buy game 1 or even only buy 1 and 3 or some crap, which means that can't have a leveling system that makes sense. If you only buy 2, you have no progress from the first game.

... also are they going to import progress? So if I've spent time and effort leveling up my materia, will I have that at the same state as the first game ended?

Being in 3 parts is currently the biggest reason why I will probably not be buying this game, and that hurts me knowing FF7 of my favourite games of all time. Dividing it up just seems to be being done to get money from the project when they know it'll sell loads regardless.

Okay, the fortunate reality though is that back in 1997 Squaresoft could have sent you Disc 1 and then in a year disc 2 and so on. This game is still essentially separated like the only version. They can't fit it all on one disc. So instead of making you wait into 2025 when it's all complete, they're giving you the first part (let's cross our fingers for 2019).

Cloud can't be emo, he has blonde hair.

I personally find Cloud's story to be one the best in the series, it starts off pretty basic with him being a badass ex-SOLDIER but then as the game progresses and you discover the truth it makes him a much more complex character.

I'm hearing that the same guy that leaked this previously said that Square was releasing a FF15 sequel in 2018, which seems highly unlikely given that Tabata has since announced a 2nd season of DLC for FF15 in 2018. I'm calling fake on this one.

The Action Turn Battle system he describes would be cool though for future mainline games though, a nice compromise for fans of both the FF15 style action combat and fans of the older ATB system.

I remember the screenshots we had showing an ATB bar besides the more action-y combat. It's likely it will work that way anyways.

That sounds pretty promising to be honest. With this being Square, I doubt the validity of this.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
