VERY IMPRESSIVE. Gratulation @ the best Games-Console, PlayStation 4. And now, we have 2018 - the biggest Games-Year ever for the Player and Publisher. Good times < 3

End of march 2018.. 80 million units are possible, right ?

No chance.. MH is the only big title releasing till march, of course fc5 and ni no kuni 2 are releasing in march. But those 2 games will not have enough time to make a big impact for the last quarter of 2017

During PS4's slow months I believe it is selling about 750K-800K per week world wide. It may be less in January as most people who wanted to buy one, probably bought one in December. So even at 400-500K per week, that's around 2million per month. So that's 6 million by end of March. So it will be very close to 80 million, I think. Is God of War release before or after March?

To be honest i dont think that spiderman will move millions of units alone. But with all other titles coming this year and a price cut for the proand ps4, i too think the ps4 can do 25+ millions

Isnt Spidey popular in the US ?

Great numbers for the PS4!Glad that 2017 was an overall great year for consoles.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

The limited stock for those 199,- PS4s definitely held them back. Plus many people planning to buy one last holiday, went for one of those BF deals, hence why December was a bit lower. Also don’t forget PSVR which also seemed quite popular.

There's a reason Sony run deals with limited stock or for a limited time and that's not to devalue the PS4 too much. Sony treat BF like it's the only time to get your hands on a super cheap PS4. Run the deals too long and you suffer a big slump going into the next year. Effectively you would just lose money to sell bigger amounts over the holiday.

There's a balance and I think Sony have mastered it over the last several years. MS haven't.

I understand that, but I must say I was surprised Sony didn’t announce a price cut to 249,- at PSX to keep up momentum. Seems they’re rather betting on bundling all those big games, which seems like a smart strategy nonetheless. Next year is packed with system sellers and that includes multiplatform games like RDR2.

20.2m for 2017 nice. That's the first time a console has sold over 20m in a year since the DS in 2010.

Where's that irstupid guy! He called people delusional for expecting the ps4 to sell as well in 2017 as 2016 because the Switch/XBO X would cannibalise it's sales! That's a strong word to throw around considering it's sales went up by 2.6m!

I was talking holiday sales this year versus last year, not the whole year as evidenced by the One X not releasing until holiday season. One X can hardly steal sales of something when it not released yet.

And if you look, the sales were down YoY for the holidays for PS4. Not by much, but still down. The 2.6 million increase YoY was due to sales throughout the year. So the other systems did steal some sales of the PS4 during the holiday. How else do you explain a system having sold YoY 2.6 million more consoles, yet during the business shopping season selling less YoY.

I think Sony keeps a close eye on world wide sales more than we think. If they see their competition outselling them world wide for cumulative weeks Sony will then make that leap to stay ahead. Whether it's a priced drop to boost sales or a game's release date on a upcoming title to boost hype. PS4 has the power of the userbase on its side.

yea seemed like they were happy with november and didn't want to sell the ps4 at a cheaper price. they should have went with the COD bundle instead of battlefront.

They should have went with a Horizon Zero Dawn Bundle but seems like they're doing alright regardless.

They have HZD bundle:

Funny enough, it stole sales from X1 that were dropping hard the hole year in anticipation of X1X... still, PS4 outsold X1 on the month X1X released WW and on NPD.

Not even close. That's around what it sells in the Autumn/Holiday period. For the slow months it wouldn't even be half of that.

You are correct. I looked back over the sales for 2017 and the lowest it go was about 250 - 270K in a week. So we are probably looking at about an extra 3-4 million PS4s max by March, unless God of War or a multi-plaform game causes an upset.

However I think from about April onwards, it will sell at 300K per week and above in the lower months.
