Forums - Movies & TV - Hollywood anti catholic bullshit needs to stop

Just watched 3 billboards outside Ebbing Missouri, and thought it was a great movie, but one scene pissed me off. Comparing the catholic church to a cripps gang , the fact that a priest belongs to the catholic church, he is partially responsible or apart of some pedofile agenda, even though he had nothing to do with it and as a whole the percentage of mistreatment is so low, in the catholic church. The way the scene was played out, basically a catholic, and there are millions of us, should feel ashamed that we belong to a church. What angers me is that there are so many movies from hollywood that love to bash on catholics. Not anglicans but catholics, and the people behind the script and directing it are jewish americans. Now i have no issues with jewish people, this is strictly a hollywood thing. What i'm trying to understand is why there is this agenda? What has pissed them off so much that they want to show off catholics in a nagative light? Also in the movie they made references not so nice to mexicans/mexico, which happens to be a catholic country. Yet the african americans got so much love in this film. I hope oneday this shit ends, and people take more notice and do something about it.

Maybe the writer(s) have had a bad experience with the catholic church.

Well the Catholic church did committed some of the worst crimes in history for over a thousand a years so a little trash talk in some movies is to be expected, by the way I think is something to religions in general. It's starting to be a fad to criticize religions which I believe to be a dirty practice.

By the way I'm Mexican and yes we are an insanely Catholic country even though the Catholic church has done a numerous amount of terrible things in the last 500 hundreds years in these lands.

The Catholic Church has a known criminal history and were far more responsible for more crimes than the Cripps.

I think it is somewhat fair.

Well the thing is Mildred was intentionally unhinged and single minded. Unless you think Hollywood believes that all boys should have their DNA put in a database upon birth, too. The scene was more about building her character than bashing the Catholic church. I was more bothered by the idea that most people in a town in Missouri would be attending a Catholic Church when Missouri's catholic population is like 19%.

They have committed an insane amount of genocide in its history and did the same thing isis does now in destroying historical places. Not long ago it was found a few priests molesting young boys. Hollywood neither hates nor likes the Catholic church, they are just the easiest to write for when the script calls for something religious. Hollywood has often portrayed them as the ones saving the day from evil and when a script calls for it they are the bad guys. I'm not a religious person but I do live where mostly Mormons roam. I've seen far more agenda aginst them in TV and Hollywood due to so much ignorance about them. They don't have multiple wives. They are pretty normal every day people.

I'm a Mormon myself and yes we do get a lot of hate, mainly because ignorance, but I got used to it.

I was technically Mormon as a kid but left on my own and came back briefly in my 20s for 3 years and left again. Just not for me as an agnostic. My mom is an active Mormon. I quite enjoy them as they are pretty genuine. I do sometimes go to the dinners and Ward stuff. It can be enjoyable. I've grown used to it as well.

Keep on going to the dinners. I mean why would you miss those, right?

I'm not religious (was technically raised Catholic but I'm not exactly "practicing"), and I'm not crazy about the Catholics myself, especially with all the sexual misconduct with a lot of the priests. But at the same time there are plenty of well meaning Catholics who just want something to believe in and have morals to live by, my dad being one of them. It's not really my thing, but if it works for people, cool. I don't get why people feel the need to shit on groups who (at least the majority of) are just living their lives and minding their business. People just have to innate tribalism built into them of "us vs them" I guess..

Anyway, who cares what Hollywood says/portrays. They've kind of become like a church themselves in many ways ironically.. I don't pay Hollywood any attention, especially since its recently been revealed that they have their OWN sex scandals and misconduct over there. They're mostly just self righteous rich snobs who live in their bubble while looking down on and lecturing Americans, especially middle America and those who don't conform to their far left "progressive" views. I think fewer and fewer people are listening to them these days.
