Holy crap stickball what are you thinking?

That's ridiculous. Not the percentages, but a more realistic number is 5.5 million for 360 and 4.5 million for PS3. Lifetime worldwide. Seriously I can't believe your prediction. 15 million is overly hopeful, 20 million is just insane.

So you think that Grand Theft Auto IV is going to do significantly worse than Call of Duty 4 did? I'm not in that pile of people that believe that.

Lets stroll down memory lane for this generation's biggest multi-plat PS3/X360 games, and their previous itenerations on the older systems, and some of the newer, bigger blockbusters:

Name  Playstation 3 Xbox 360 Total:
 Assassain's Creed 2,450,000 3,620,000 6,070,000+ Still selling 50k+ weekly
 Devil May Cry 4 1,090,000 960,000 2,050,000+ Still selling 40k+ weekly
 Devil May Cry 3  Playstation 2 1,920,000
 Call of Duty 4 2,840,000 5,550,000 8,390,000+ Still selling 125k+ weekly
Call of Duty 1-3 All Systems 12,260,000
 Armored Core 4 150,000 200,000 350,000
 Armored Core 3  Playstation 2 230,000
 Madden 2008 800,000 2,260,000 3,060,000 Still selling 20k+ weekly
 Madden 2006  PS2 + XB 5,370,000
Ghost Recon: AW  2,140,000 2,140,000 Xbox 360 Only
 Ghost Recon 1  PS2 + XB 3,380,000
Rainbow Six Vegas 360,000 2,100,000 2,460,000 Still selling 5k+ weekly
 Rainbow Six 3  Xbox 1,580,000

Okay, so we have only Madden on PS2/XB, and Ghost Recon 1 on PS2/XB outselling the closest franchises on the 360/PS3. Yet everyone else beat out their succuessors. Why do you expect GTAIV to sell under 70% of what GTA:SA did, Naz? I think your the crazy one.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Around the Network

I think the game will be at 9-11 million combined sales by the end of 2008. I think it'll go on to sell another 5-7 million in combined sales over the following 4 years. So my guess for combined lifetime sales for the game would be somewhere between 14-18 million.

For those that think the numbers are too high, Call of Duty 4 which is part of a much weaker franchise has sold 8.3 million in 5 months (which includes PC sales). I think the 360 and PS3 combined will easily beat that this year especially given the fact that the game is being bundled with many systems in Europe (and might be elsewhere...), will have a much larger advertising campaign than Call of Duty 4 and will have the benefit of an additional marketing push at Christmas 08 and beyond thanks to the episodic content.
