Forums - Sales Discussion - GTA IV now has around 3 million preorders, 360 > PS3

It's quite vague but if it's for worldwide than atach ratio wouldn't be bigger on PS3.

Around the Network

In the UK, the PS3 version is alomost outsold everywhere.... That tells you how HUGE this game will be. It's going to eclipse everything that came out so far....

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

In the UK most retailers stopped taking pre-orders for 360 and PS3 versions since 9 April (except Amazon.co.uk), citing unprecedented demand.

Amazon.co.uk stopped taking pre-orders for a while as well, this after the PS3 version topping their bestseller chart for quite long a long time. I think the now known about PS3/GTA IV bundle will sell extremely well.

I think in the end the PS3 version will significantly outsell the 360 version globally. MGS4 will built up additional momentum while we move towards christmas.

PS3 vs 360 sales

I'm in Scotland - I pre-ordered my PS3 copy on Amazon.co.uk yesterday - so they should still have stock available if there are any fellow Brits out there struggling.

wow 2.2-3 million preorders? This will definitely be the biggest game yet (if true). Mutliplatform games will kill exclusives this year.

Yes so everyone buys from Amazon.co.uk? No one buys from play.com, game.co.uk, hmv.co.uk, shopto.net etc. etc. who have all sold out on their intial allocation of both versions.

Plus, read TheSource' recent article, GTA4 current pre-order data for NA stands at 1.8:1 for 360:PS3, and we know this is GTA4's main market, with the most legs.

The only hope PS3 has is obviously in Europe, and this has to make up 1m first week to catch up with the 360 NA lead. So in the end, the most the PS3 can do is equal sales. Bundle or no bundle (by the way play.com has a GTA4 and 360 for £199), this is no where near what you said - a significant lead worldwide.

I forsee shortages

 Indeed, hence the whole one platform model discussio, it is not profitable at all for third parties to do exclusive titles in these days.

On previous generation it 90% of the market was on PS2 but on now all those PS2 users are divided between 360, PS3 and Wii users.

Publishers are strugling now because to gather the same market as previous generation (hardcore, casuals and trendy)* gamers they need to split between three skus.

Thats why the amount of sales from multiplatform titles will always be extremely superior.

*IMO - Hardcore are the people that breath games, that play to compete against people or against themselfs. They couldspend 8 hours playing pac-man or unreal tournament, it's the same, prove that you've got better skills.

- Casuals are the ones who play to have a laugh from time to time to something that it's on everyones houses

- Trendy are the ones that have a console because it's fasionable and play thinking they're the shit but the only thing they do is play Madden in US and FIFA/Pro Evo on Europe

All three of this groups play GTA IV, that's why is so awesome.

I think Europe plays an important factor.

GTA: San Andreas (Released October 2004) had sold over 12 million copies worldwide for the PS2 by the end of January 2005 (source Rockstar).

The bulk of sales took place during christmas, according to the NPD 5.1 million copies of San Andreas were sold in North America in 2004. So rest of the world seems to be > than US GTA sales.

Someone on VGchartz stated for their UK shop the PS3 significantly outsold the 360 version, for the rest of Europe this should be even more profound. For the US pre-order data seems to suggest the PS3 version is more popular amongst its install base. As good as all popular PS2 exclusive games will see PS3 sequels, so I think more PS2 gamers will be pushed into buying a PS3 to play GTA IV.
