Forums - Microsoft Discussion - The X Factor - How much of a boost will the X give Xbox One sales?

The Xbox one X is finally here and Microsoft is trying to change their fortune.

Rather then make this thread about Xbox One vs PS4, I'd rather focus on how is Microsoft doing against itself. I expect good thing from the Xbox one X and let take a look at if the new console manage to boost sales.

This will be an interesting thread to see the impact of X1X on X1 sales...

PS4Pro even though making 20% of PS4 sales I don't think impacted much (not sure we can say PS4 being up YOY can be atributed to it).

Good luck X1X.

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Not enough to catch up with PS4 and Switch.

The reveal of X1X 17 months before release certainly didn't help X1 sales through 2017.

Will be interesting to see how things play out now that customers know there isn't something better right around the corner.

Also, if Microsoft is committed to ending traditional console generations, Xbox One could be around a long time. Easily another decade with hardware updates to improve performance every 4-5 years. In which case, that user base could get quite large by the end of it's run.

I doubt xbox one X will boost sales, but lower xbox one s price will move more units.

I think X will make up 15% of Xbox One sales this year. So I see the XB1S selling 7.65 million while the X selling 1.35 million. Overall it should give the Xbox One family a nice boosts. I expect 2018 to be the peak year.

More consoles sold, does not equal more users. There will be many upgrade purchases. All that will do is muddy the arguments made when we debate consoles. Eventually we will try to debate with how many ps+ and live members there are, but it wont be accurate cuz not all buy online subs but will be the best thing we have. Or software sold could be another guide.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

He already stated this isn't a comparison between the ps4 and switch.

The release of the X as had a huge impact so far in Boosting Xbox one Sales.
It will be interesting to compare Xbox one X new consoles sales to the 20% of new consoles that PS4 Pro manage in the first year.

Disclaimer: I am not an Xbox owner so this is just my "outsider" opinion.

I'm not sure where the X1X fits into a cohesive strategy for Microsoft. Sure, it's a big increase in raw horsepower (and that's always nice) but at $499 this late in the generation it just doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Existing Xbox one owners may be tempted to upgrade, but it seems unlikely that a lot of first-time Xbox buyers will drop 500 bucks to jump into a console generation that has what? 2 years left before the next-gen machines start rolling out?

And speaking of next gen (assuming late 2019, into 2020) what is MS going to do now that they've just released a significantly upgraded current gen console in the X1X? Do they expect all the X1X owners to eat that $499 purchase and buy *another* new console in less than 2 years? Do they expect the X1X to seriously compete with whatever shiny new tech the PS5 brings to the table? It just seems like MS have put themselves into a really awkward marketing position with the X1X. And lets not forget that all of the potential upcoming compelling games that could help push X1X sales will also be available on Windows 10. That's even less reason for new customers to jump into a console purchase.
