So when are the real numbers out? Next thursday?

I have no idea when the January data comes out. But the December data came out Jan 11, and for that data, NPD had to calculate full year data too. January calculations should be simpler...so I would guess the Jan Data comes out by the end of the week

Sounds about right. Japanese numbers usually came out a full week after during the holiday rush but started to come out in the middle of the week in mid-January.

Joke post? You realize you are in for a huge disappointment...? Your sales are WAY too high, Christmas ended in December! Why are you posting X'mas season sales? Do you even live in America? We are continuing to have massive Wii shortages (and DS) even to this day, have you not realized that? I have not seen any Wiis ever and no DSes in months in any stores and our Sunday ads continue to avoid advertising for either of them (and it's now Feb.!) meaning they aren't getting any or only a handful every Sunday... And even if there weren't shortage issues a VG console has never been able to sell anywhere near 800k units in January, outside of Japan! The record is about 500k max... And most of your SW sales are also too high... Edit: Now I just looked at some of the other predictions and I'm shocked to see people seriously predicting up to 960k sales for the Wii in January!!!!?!?!?!? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! I don't even know what to say!!! It's so far off! Can they not at least listen to some anecdotal evidence before predicting and some common sense? Before you guys make your predictions maybe you should browse through past American December to January sales...! Try clicking on the 'Americas: Monthly Chart' icon, sheesh...

The DS sold 1.6 million in December and alot of people didn't get one. I have roughly half that as sales. 880k implies sales of about 200k a week for 4 weeks, plus another 1/2 week. In Japan, when the DS is in stock, it sells 100-200k a week. The US is seeing high demand for the DS right now, so I figured it would be over 500k for January. Still, it probably is too high. As for the other hardware, it seems reasonable. Nintendo would only have to ship 100k a week of Wii's. They sold double that in December. Demand is still strong. PS2 still sells well, as does the GBA as they fade off into the sunset. PSP sells for X-mas but does not have the software or buzz to keep selling in January like it did...so I cut the Dec figure by 1/3. 360 is losing buzz to Wii and PS3, and sold like crazy in December, so it will be around its normal levels. PS3 is facing shortages in demand, now that supply has been met at Nov-early Dec levels. In terms of other insane predictions, 960k is way to high for Wii in January in America. That would mean 12 million+ this year in North America (extrapolate). Wii has sold about 500,000 in Japan this month. I'd say it sells at like 2/3 Japan's rate across the rest of the world for a few months. Call it 6 million this year in Japan, 3-4 million in America, and 3-4 million in Europe. Around 15 million by years end. Numbers which would be comparable to 360 if it had sales of a few million in Japan like Wii will. Software..I just took a guess.

America is not Japan! What's happening in Japan does not mean it's also happening in America! Japan is in the New Years buying season. There is no New Years/January buying season in the West! The first 4-5 months of the year in Japan are extremely high selling seasons. The West is almost completely driven by the X'mas Season w/ch has ended thus there will be way lower sales than in Japan. This is what you should expect for Jan: ~200k DS

I don't think so. Currently Nintendo is producing 2.5m DS lites a month. Through Jan. the DS was sold out in lots of places in the US.. It's pretty hot in America, I think (just like everywhere else). They say Japan gets around 700k, so the US must get around the same amount. I'd say your earlier estimate of 500k (max) is the better one..

I looked up when January NPD was released last year...I believe it was either late on the 11th of February or early on the 12th. Not sure which date the data was actually released on.
