Yes, it does.

Legislators like to think that they grant rights.  But, they're wrong.  Whether or not a law claims something is a right makes no difference, philosophically speaking.

Another way to think about it....

There are legal "rights" and there are human rights.

Human rights are inalienable. They exist whether any government recognizes them or not.  A good example is free speech.  The right to speak freely exists.  If a government doesn't recognize it, and locks you up for saying something they don't like, they've violated your basic human rights.

Legal "rights" are made up by guys in suits who think they're important.   A good example that we hear about in the USA these days is the "right" to an education.  That's not actually a right.  It cannot be, because it requires something from another person/entity.  The same can be said for healthcare, and many other things.  Those ain't rights in the philosophical sense.  They're only rights insofar as we allow the government to use doublespeak to convince us that they are.

If you get arrested for practicing free speech and did nothing wrong, well that's a potential lawsuit against the government.

It sounds like your gripes are with the left. They're the ones pushing the attacks on free speech, desire "free" college, and "free" healthcare. Of course free stuff isn't actually free, it just becomes much higher taxes and rationing.

Left wingers also argue everybody should have an equal education. But I always argue dumb and smart people come from the same schools, the difference is the effort people actually make in school.

Anywho, I think its kinda funny to see the unintended consequences of achieving equality. But what can you do? Tyranny of the majority and this is what progress looks like I suppose.

My gripe is that government is constantly infringing on human rights.  Both the left and the right, as well as the loosely defined center (in the US sense) are guilty of this.  Government in the USA locks people in cages for smoking pot, murders people for selling untaxed cigarettes, kills many thousands of innocent brown people in far away places every year, feeds outright lies and propaganda to people all around the world (including, and maybe especially, the United States), steals money from Amiercans and sends it to warlords and terrible governments all over the world, and does countless other terrible things.

Hey, I'm with ya on some of that.

Its not just government infringing on human rights though, sometimes people have the opportunity to legalize/decriminalize things and choose not to. Some people want more government regulations and ignore the unintended consequences.

First thing though, few people actually get locked up for JUST smoking pot. They get punished in some way but usually not much if any jail time. But I get your point even if you work choice was bad.

Do you REALLY think Eric Garner was killed on purpose? No, he was an idiot with a criminal record, health problems, and resisted arrest. I'm not gonna argue the guy deserved to die, but he was an idiot and was breaking the law he had several times before. The police used force to take the fat ass down and he died. If he... I dunno... wasn't an asshole he might be alive today.

Why does it matter the people killed in far off lands are brown? I thought the primary issue was terrorism, not their brown skin.

Propaganda is universal and found in every country. I mean anytime somebody is pushing an agenda there could be propaganda.

I'd argue any country with taxes is stealing money. Not like we have an option. We just hope they don't piss it away and that's not a uniquely US thing.

I'm really not interested in having a political debate... but this has been fun.

Government sucking is universal, for sure.  The US isn't even close to the worst.  But, that's not saying much.  And, it damn sure does not make it okay.

Yeah... I guess we sleep easy knowing it could be worse.

Although, at some point I do believe the reckless spending will have to addressed. No party can gain popularity by cutting spending, so it won't be dealt with until leaders actually have to.

Pelosi said there is nothing left to cut, so maybe we'll just have super high taxes.

I will be honest with you. This is my main pet peeve about the US of A. I really dig the country and it's people... like, more so than my own country to the point I am confused for an American tourist AT HOME. But I HATE the US Government with a passion and the CIA over everything else. Can't they let people mind their own business and realize that their ideals just aren't "one size fits all"?

I think a good 1/3 of Americans hate the US government too.  Maybe another third are flag worships clowns.  The rest are somewhere in between.

Flag =/= Government for me. I really found the Superbowl protests distasteful and would chide the players for not protesting at a different time, even if I wouldn't really sack them or penalize them for it. But I genuinely hate the government. I wish JFK had carried on with his original plan of destroying the CIA. That's one shakeup the US has needed since forever. The Deep State thing isn't as much of a conspiracy when you realize there really is an unofficial corrupt apparatus of career politicians in it for money from companies who count on them to enact policies that will enable them to sell military tech, overpriced contracts for new vehicles or satellites and invading other countries under shit pretexts only so they can sell more of the equipment that ends up destroyed or lost during invasions.

Hell, arguably this isn't the CIA's problem. It actually started when COSTA RICA of all countries created the abomination known as the United Fruit Company. They hijacked the CIA to use as their own East India company clone in Central America and then everyone in the military industrial complex wanted to get into their office and twist their goals into something that would get the Feds to buy more stuff from them, since tank manufacturers do not profit from world peace.

Unfortunately, we live in a country where I  can't stop you from practicing free will.  If I could just somehow rob you of your ability to practice free will it would all be good.  Until then we can't exactly stop the guy from going into whatever club he wants.  ...(if only people did as I SAY the world would be better amirite?)
