Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Would you be interested in a different Switch ala PS Vita TV?

Sooo, how much did Vita TV for the Vita? 5%? Or 10%?

Well, surely there are some 100 people that would buy a Switch TV at say 30$-50$ less.

But mainly it looks for me like demand for a cheaper product (like 2DS). Nintendo and other companies (remember Slim-models of Playstation) tend to deliver something like that a few years into the consoles life.

my greatest games: 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023

10 years greatest game event!

The Switch is not a gimmick.  I was one of those that said "portable means nothing to me" guys, until i had the Switch.

I play equally in docked and handheld mode, and it comes with me in my bag, every day.  This is going to be the next thing, and Sony/MS will follow suit.

As GPU tech gets smaller, and cheaper, the hybrid is what the market will demand.  Nintendo was yet again, ahead of the curve.

For all their gimmicks and attempt at innovation, they eventually strike gold.

When you consider buying a product but the price is too high, you don't buy it. Simple as that. You wait for the price to come down eventually. There's no debating about 'what if they cut out this or cut out that or..' No. If you really would want to buy one, you would buy one.

You say this without any explanation. Why shouldn't people propose hypothetical different models with different price points?

Because it's wishful thinking and nothing more. Yeah, sorry, I poop at partys.

Also, others have already explained why this would be a bad business decision. I agree with them.

These discussions are bizarre, I'm guessing you paid more on release for your "main" console than the switch currently costs? Why people expect Nintendo to launch a new product and price it according to 4 year old hardware is unfathomable!

No one forces you to take the switch out the dock, I bought one on day 1, and didn't take it out the dock for months, I wasn't interested in portability, which was fine, because I had the option to leave it docked, I don't need to remove other people's options to enjoy the one I wanted.

Playing on docked mode with a joy con in both hands, is, in my opinion, superior to the pro controller, and THE most comfortable gaming position/control option I have ever experienced (I have larger than average hands)

In the last two months though, I started playing in Undocked mode and have found it wonderful, even though I thought I would never use it, lo and behold I have been doing so increasingly because it is just terribly convenient if someone else wants the TV, or I want to go sit in a different room, or a more comfortable chair, or lie on the bed etc. Functionality I didn't think I would want, I have used because it is there, and I have enjoyed it in the process.

All these articles "I want a docked only switch because I won't use its portable function" are so childish.

Its a complete lack of compromise, and ultimately just a hollow excuse to try to bash Nintendo, if you had any real intention of buying one, you would have done so regardless of Nintendo offering a console that satisfies all customers. If however you are stuck crying that Nintendo values home and portable gamers equally and that's not fair on you, chances are you would never have bought one anyway, and should probably reflect on why you feel so entitled to your own desires being survived exactly how you wish, rather than a great compromise that fits everyone inclusively.

If you don't want to Undock it, don't. It's that simple. It's what I did for 8 months, and it was ultimately my loss.

Holly shit why are you guys who sensitive about this? It's not enough that you aren't interested in a console only Switch, nobody else is allowed to be interested in one either. Quite frankly who gives a shit if you like the portability of the Switch? Who gives a shit if you're happy with the Joycons and who gives a shit if you don't care about how much the Switch costs? You don't represent everyone and it's idiotic to get pissed at people for not feeling the same way about the Switch that you do.

and who gives a shit if it's wishful thinking? The point of the thread was to ask if people would buy a console only version of the Switch. For some people it's yes, for some people it's no. There's no need to act like someone just insulted your mother.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Because a console only version is completely unnecessary, as all you have to do is leave it in the dock..

As for the rest of it, it's something to think about for those saying "I don't want portable" "I don't like the idea of joycon" because I was highly skeptical about both too.. Not to the ridiculous point where I wouldn't buy a console because of it though, however I can happily admit that I was totally wrong, and maybe they are missing out on the best console experience they will have due to some ludicrous prejudice towards a console because it decides to cater for everyone (and so refuse to buy it until there is a version that caters just for them...)

Wait a minute. We respect the thread and we adressed the question it asks. We gave our reasoning not only to what is our personal oppinion, but to why it's a stupid idea in the long run, too. So why are YOU so sensitive about this?

Also, your words can be flipped, you know? The people who do want a console only Switch don't represent eversone, either, and it's idiotic for them to get pissed about us who don't feel the same way like they do.

I have no intention to attack the OP in any way, but meanwhile even he must have been realizing that the idea is nonsense after all the responses he got. Most of them were well-meant and honestly try to explain why it's nonsense. Now it's up to him to conclude.

But aren't the games just being streamed? I am pretty sure they are.

Nvidia offers a game streaming service, where people can rent game-time on powerful servers from Nvidia.
The games I listed run on the console itself (though you could probably stream the games if you wanted to).

I am talking about the wii and gamecube games. According to the link here it says they are just streamed not on the console itself  http://nintendoeverything.com/wii-and-gamecube-games-for-nvidia-shield-in-china-are-streamed-rather-than-ports/
