Forums - Sales Discussion - Nintendo Switch has become the fastest selling video game system of all time in the US

I think Switch is more popular in Canada and South Korea. There may be a few other, admittedly small markets but yeah that's possibly it. There is a slim possibility it may have a fighting chance in France, its most popular European country. Or i guess it could catch on in China and/or India.

The Switch+ games has done surprisingly well in France and Germany of all places. UK is a significant improvement over WiiU, but still pretty meh overall.

Exactly my sentiments. It's not doing as poorly as some think in the U.K. but given the size of the market,  Nintendo products usually underperform over here. I think the lack of shelf space allotted to it doesn't help either.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

I noticed that too even though it is now changing ever so slowly. If it continues the domination of the online market, it is only a matter of time before the shelf space situation changes and I wonder how well it would actually be selling when that happens.

Even in the days the Wii and DS were dominating in the U.K., the stores still had far more shelf space for Ps360. When the 3DS was doing pretty well and the ps4/xbone were out, the older models (Ps360) still had more shelf space than it. I've often thought there was something fishy going on. (Backhanders?) Nintendo really ought to have more presence here, particularly in regards to store shelf space. A dedicated office and proper  sales reps to ensure shelf space would be a start.

It is not doing as poorly as the Wii U, no. It is doing much better but where the Wii U was this is not difficult.

I am not saying you are wrong but from what I see in London ( I can only speak for London, and I do get around most of it a bit. ), it is getting much better shelf space than the Wii U ever did. Granted it is not at the level of the other consoles BUT it is still far better than the Wii U.

Why I agree with you that it is not doing as poorly as some think is that Amazon UK and Argos always seem to be low or out of stock, 9 months later. You couldn't give away a Wii U in the UK after 6 months. No one wanted it.

Walking past a CeX at lunch yesterday it was surprising to see the Switch as their center piece item. I walked in pretending to be interested in buying it and they said they had only just put it in the window and it was their only one. They got a handful after xmas and they all sold out quickly. They were selling it above the RRP.

I know this is no big deal but we are talking about a Nintendo console in the UK.

I honestly believe these positive sales in the USA will give UK Switch sales a nice boost.

As long as sales pick up in Europe, Nintendo Switch can easily sell over 100m units.

What wouldn't I have given to see that. Who would have thought that could happen in the days of the Wii U  being tucked away in some obscure corner. I was almost made to feel embarrassed at work in Manchester in times past for owning a Wii U and daring to suggest it was a gaming console.  Long may the switch reign.

Lol ok?
The Switch is the only Nintendo system which launched at over 300$ and never saw any kind of pricedrop or promotion (Wii U launched at 350/400$, but saw an official 300$ price in September 2013, with some games in bundle)
The Wii started at 250$ with Wii Sport, just saying.

The 3DS started at 250$, and saw a official pricecut at 170$, results? Switch beat them all.
Oh, and with shortages for most of the year, of course.
Who expect Switch to have bad legs or drop fast is gonna be disappointed.

Switch will outsell PS4 in USA.

Were all gonna have a good laugh at this in a few years.

Nah. Switch will outsell it there. It's worldwide where the PS4 will stay ahead.

Just look at 3ds sales, switch will follow a similar pattern, but be way more front loaded due it having most if its big franchises released early, and the small user base that still  buys nintendo consoles giving it a boost. in reality if ps4 released in march it would have beaten the switch this year by a good margin. nintendo doesn't have third-party support,  and sales will fall hard like 3ds and N64 in the US.

3DS never had an amazing demand. The console was just seen as a new DS by the general consumer and that's why it needed a price cut to get nice sales. The Switch is beating the 3DS with a 300$ pricetag and will have a way better catalog of games since Nintendo merged their 2 markets.

No way its not surpassing the 3DS. It will pick up later in Europe like almost every Nintendo system.

I dont see the Switch selling under 80 millions tbh and most likely over 100 million.
