REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo Switch has become the fastest-selling home video game system in U.S. history. The home console that players can take wherever they go launched March 3, 2017, and in 10 months has sold more than 4.8 million units in the United States, according to Nintendo’s internal sales figures. That’s the highest total for the first 10 months of any home video game system in U.S. history, surpassing Nintendo’s own Wii system, which was the previous record holder with more than 4 million units sold during the same timeframe.

 

 In the U.S., more than 60 percent of Nintendo Switch owners have Super Mario Odyssey, and over 55 percent own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Not only are these games system-sellers, but they’re also two of the highest-rated games in history. Nintendo Switch owners also possess the fun, competitive games Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 at rates of more than 50 percent and 20 percent, respectively.

if accurate that's pretty incredible and a good sign for things to come. Generally systems 2nd and third years are bigger than their first, naturally as the library builds up and more people feel comfortable leaving their old system behind and becoming adopters.

Keep on killing it Nintendo. I'm fairly hyped for a new Nintendo Direct and the announcements that might come. Have to imagine Nintendo will have some big titles to announce as A) they'll want to continue momentum, B) hardly anything 'big' has been announced offiicially for 2018 from them, and C) those last 2 years of basically absent Wii U development had to have been a lot of games in the works either for the Switch or Wii U games that got translated

That's really dood for them I did think it would outsell the Ps4's first 10 months but this was uexpected.

Do we know how much Switch sold in the US by the beginning of December? We can use that information to calculate the December sales in the US. The charts unfortunately only show regional data in the US up to November 18.

Thanks, I tried to look it up but I kept getting japan stats.

If we conclude from the NPD data for November, it would put switch sales in December at around 1.4 million.

 

Edit: we didn't get NPD for switch, but could conclude from reports on PS4 numbers and switch selling half.
