Forums - Nintendo Discussion - [Rumor] Bayonetta 3 releasing in 2018

Well don't forget now Ninty is all focused on Switch - no more split 3ds/WiiU it should take half of the time to make great games.

Switch!!!

It's either October 2018 or early 2019

No.

Sounds to me what a lot of people said about Xenoblade 2 and Mario Oddyssey.  I think 2018 is very realistic.  Most of what they have announced have been released relatively quick IMO.  I feel this will be no different.

The problem is no gameplay has been shown at all. Until I've seen gameplay I'm not convinced. We have no idea how long they've been working on Bayonetta 3 because they haven't announced a release date and had just shown a really short cinematic trailer and nothing else.

important to keep in mind that lately Nintendo has not been showing gameplay of upcoming games until prettyyyy close to their release. Almost all of their big 2017 games we saw less than a year before they launched. Odyssey at the Switch announcement video, Arms / Splatoon 2 at the January big Switch Event, etc.

It would be very in line with Nintendo's recent trends to show footage of a number of games at the start of the year that will be out in 2018 and haven't been talked about yet. I mean OBVIOUSLY it's going to happen with some big titles we've yet to see as Nintendo currently has very very little announced officially (Bayonetta bundle, Bayonetta 3, Yoshi, Fire Emblem, Kirby being basically it)

Maybe if it's not developed by Platinum. I heard they have enough other projects.

who else would develop it ? besides the only other game they are working on is Granblue (the new IP has just recently started development and has a 20 people team)

yeah, as far as I know Platinum is not officially working on much of anything else at the moment. I mean they PROBABLY are, but as far as what's been announced.

Would be hard to believe Square Enix wouldn't push to have them work on another Nier, like immediately would have signed a contract... but then again, SE makes a lot of dumb choices....

Also I think it's highly possible that Platinum is working on another game for Nintendo. They had that picture early in 2017 of the Wonderful 101 characters with Joycons and Nintendo arguably has been their most frequent source of work the last few years....

The Xenoblade 2 argument is rather silly and simplistic...

How many games have Monolith Soft worked on ever since they released XCX? Did you perhaps forget to compare that to the number of games Platinum Games developed or are still developing since Bayonetta 2?

1. The Legend of Korra (That one released just after B2... the result was a bad game)
2. Transformers Devastation (meh)
3. TMNT (bad game)
4. Star Fox Zero (meh)
5. NieR Automata + DLC (Platinum's savior!)
6. Bayonetta 1 PC and Switch ports/ Bayonetta 2 Switch port
7. Granblue Fantasy (looks amazing so far)

Xenoblade 2 coming out early surprised me, but it wasn't only unoptimized and rushed according to fans, but the team simply had all the time in the world to focus their attention and resources onto this one single title. Plus, it apparently took around three years to develop.

I don't see Bayonetta 3 coming any earlier than mid-2019. Late 2019 is more likely.

you're sort of basing what you're saying on very little. you don't KNOW when Bayonetta 3 was started. For all we know Nintendo might have made a deal with Platinum immediately after Bayonetta 2 released and got rave reviews.

Also towards your Xenoblade Chron 2 comments- the game runs very well, it's just portably where it struggles a bit, but that's the reality of trying to put a big game on a portable console, sometimes there will be tradeoffs.

Nintendo has been pushing to do short announcement to releases lately and the reality is that they almost froze releases during the last 2 years of the Wii U. There likely definitely are plenty of titles that are quite far along that could be released in 2018. Again, Nintendo did nothing for like the last 2 years of the Wii U as far as releases.

I am uncertain about Bayonetta 3 coming out in 2018, but there's currently nothing to base an argument on saying it's unlikely. There is a strong argument regarding the fact that they're releasing the compilation of 1+2 pretty early. Generally speaking studios don't release those THAT far out from the main new game because they want to pressure people to buy the bundle before the new game comes out without a big distance of time

in the end until we get some words on when development started on Bayonetta 3 it's tough to say either way. It also helps that, as far as we know, Platinum isn't working on a huge load of titles at the moment

Late 2018 to early 2019 is a safe bet.

Not going to dismiss the possibility of it releasing in 2018, but do not for a second believe in Summer 2018.

The announcement with the "in development" is not an announcement one makes if they are less than 9 months from release. They would have shown a more classic reveal trailer. You know with some story/gameplay or something. It was essentially the same as a Metroid Prime 4 reveal. Neither are coming out sooner than holiday 2018.

Already addressed... both those games were always explicitly announced for 2017 and they had gameplay to show from the very start. You don't do a 50-second teaser with no gameplay and no release window for a game you're gonna release within a year, that... simply doesn't happen. I think if you go back to Metroid Prime 4 and say it comes out in 2018 despite also having the same kind of teaser, that I can even accept as a valid belief because back in E3 Nintendo had loads of games coming in the near future. But that isn't the case here, we know barely anything about the Switch's 2018 line-up, and had they announced Bayonetta 3 for 2018 at the Game Awards it'd only be 11 months away at worst. There's no reason they wouldn't at least tease a 2018 release if they believed in it, and also show no gameplay or anything.

Edit: also I'll be the first to admit I never once believed Xenoblade 2 was coming out in 2017. It having made it is quite impressive, but still it was a game they already announced with gameplay and were always adamant in saying it came out that year.

Mario had like a 5 second teaser in the Switch reveal.  People said, "looks like a 3D world style game".  They were wrong.

After seeing more about it, "this is getting delayed".  Again, wrong.

Xenoblade 2 was also thought to not be released due to lack of footage until late into the year...well that was wrong too.

Based on Nintendo's patern with game reveals and release windows on the Switch, it is foolish to say that there is no way it is coming in 2018.  Even unlikely is no more of a wild guess than saying it is def coming 2018.

If at E3 we still see no gameplay or release window, then we can safely say that it will come in 2019.  Right now, it is literally a crap shoot of a debate.

It's not releasing in 2018.
If it was planned to come out during summer 2018, Nintendo would have told this. Not only that, it would have shown footage of a game that was about to be released in 6-7 months.

Also, the "now in development..." part points at the game being early in development. Like MP4.
