Forums - Movies & TV - Disney's Star Wars $4 Billion Investment Has Already Paid For Itself

Just wait when Star Wars World in Florida opens. They'll be taking in money daily from that too.

Didn't Lucas say that he sold Lucasfilm for such a relatively low price because he and Disney were friendly and he didn't really need anymore money anyway?

Yes, and if I can recall, he donated most of that money to charity anyway. He clearly has savings from all those years of Star Wars, so he gets to go out of the public eye and enjoy an amazing retirement while providing for his family for generations to come.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I knew they would make their money back. But to do it this quickly was amazing.

Well, that was quick

Huh. Based on some of the threads around here, I figured Disney was losing buckets of money on Star Wars.

I just assumed The Last Jedi was a flop, Episode IX had been mothballed indefinitely, Bob Iger was preparing to resign in disgrace, Rian Johnson's body would soon be discovered floating in the East River, and Disney had prepared legal documents to officially change the name of Walt Disney to Plot Holey.

They're still about 2.5 Billion behind what they paid

They probably made money back with toy and merch sales alone.

Unless you have the ROI all you are saying is your speculation.

We know $2.5-$2.75 billion in box office is pretty much a fact.

We have sales numbers that put The Force Awakens Blu-Ray sales alone at 5.7 million in the US only.

Honestly they broke $4 billion probably with Rogue One + The Force Awakens alone, but this article is just using movie ticket revenue as their barometer.

It's possible Disney takes all the revenue from Star Wars merchandise and donates it to charity, I mean there's no way to know for sure, but lets use some common sense here.
