Woah hold on. You’re saying the Wii U same time frame of 9 months had better games than the switch? Everyone knows after launch there was practically nothing to play on Wii U. Switch already has Mario Odyssey, Zelda BotW, Mario kart 8 DX, Splatoon 2, arms, Mario rabbids, and a number of third party titles. Wii U only ever got ports Assassin creed 3, Batman Arkham, tekken tag 2, and ninja gaiden 3 at launch. After that most third party games dried up.

The switch’s library is much better for the same point in time.

It also had the Wii's library (although some requiring you to also buy a wii controller).  Plus, other Wii U titles you are skipping like  Super Mario Bros U, Nano Assult Neo, Mass Effect 3, Rabbids Land.  Basically, neither was that great, and the switch line up is many times better now than it was at launch.  You are forgetting that many of those you mentioned for the switch were not a launch (but near launch, and I am mentioning some on wii u that were in 4 month launch window).

I don’t get what you’re saying. You said “at the same point in time”, meaning during the Wii U’s first nine months too no? Plus Wii U would have never got games like wolfenstien, Skyrim, doom, la noire, dragon ball xenoverse and more. It’s geting much better third party support now and in the future.

But most third parties and even Nintendo didn’t expect it to be this big of a success. Now they’re scrambling trying to get games on it. Give it time. The games will come.

This, the Switch isnt selling on motion controls.

So... we just gonna act like 1 2 Switch isn't a thing?

Look, what you mean to say is that MARKETING THE CONSOLE AS A MOTION CONTROLLED VIDEO GAME MACHINE was a fad. But motion controls are still in gaming today and that cannot be ignored because of the current trend on its marketing. I mean, I was just playing Resident Evil with motion controls not 20 minutes ago. And all consoles on the market have motion controls to some capacity which means, motion controls are not a fad. The marketing for motion controls are a fad, however.

and how well is that game doing compared to say Zelda? Mario Kart? its not like 12Switch is even going to do Wii Sports Resort numbers Yes motion controls are still here but its not selling CAUSE of motion controls, lets not pretend like it is. Their is a reason why we dont see marketing for it, those things are not mutually exclusive.

Yup and the Switch proves that, especially with how much it has been selling. The motion controls on the Switch are a nice touch.

I am pretty sure the absolute majority arent buying it for the motion controls

Not the biggest fan of motion controls but I can't play Resident Evil Revelations 1 &2 without them now! Super Mario Odyssey, also. For some games, they just click.

For me Sony broke into the industry and has remained strong due to games first. The only time I felt they left that thinking was first half of PS3 when they struggled. Sony tends to do evolutions based on what makes sense at the time. CDs in 1990s were the next technology, others used them, it was just baffling Nintendo didn't. DVDs were the natural next step. They may have jumped the gun a little bit with blu-ray, might explain why they held off on 4K UHD this generation.

When you buy a PlayStation home console you get a large and deep library of titles explaining its broad appeal across regions in the world. Sony, in general, gets vast majority of third party titles as well as having strong stable of first party. That has built a level of trust that it is a quality brand over 20+ years.

Depends on what you consider to be a "fad". In my understanding, DS was the first console to sell on a crazy rate without a fad. Touch screens have been implemented before and after the DS. Having 2 screens just allowed more possibilities for gaming and often improved gaming by utilizing mini maps, inventory, or actually taking advantage of the touch screens physical capabilities. Not to mention, it didn't necessarily have to be used at all. If DS had fad attributes that means that smartphones are fads too...

Gaming is fad to some like other things. So get off a high horse you are putting the PS4 on. Games move consoles. No matter what else they do.

Couldn't agree more. My assumption for PS5 will be a culmination of all the past successes into a single box. The strong Exclusive titles. The next level of technology whether it's disc or cartridge media or digital only. PSVR and video throughput box all in one. If it's only thing I ask is the power to run at least 4 3.0 USBs. For external hard drive, charging controllers I otherwise do not have on a stand alone charger and for other Bluetooth device such as Headphones/ Mikes and whatnot. Either way I can trust Sony to deliver.

I do not see your point in the least. How is a game doing in comparison to another great selling game? Makes no sense. Arms and 1 2 Switch are sales successes, regardless of the goal posts you want to try to imply.

Wii did not sell on Zelda Mario and Metroid in the first year? You would be kidding yourself to think otherwise. Saying Wii sold only on motion controls, or even because of motion controls is to disrespect the work Nintendo put into making that console a success. People ignored motion controls in Smash just like they do in Arms. It does not negate that the option is there or that motion controls are not a staple of gaming. And besides, you completely ignored that motion controls are not a gimmick. If they are used in every console since its release and we are almost 12 years and 5 or 6 consoles later, you have to admit that motion controls are not a gimmick. That is a fact.

The best you can say is, "a console being marketed around motion controls..." which is true but the actual motion controls are indeed not a fad. Just like touch screen gaming is not a fad.

XBOX ONE: VR Compatible (NO)
Nintendo Switch: VR Compatible (NO)
PlayStation 4: VR Compatible (YES)

VR may not be a fad...depending on your definition of fad...AR or some hybrid may replace it...but VR most certainly has something to do with the surging sales of the PS4.
