I added in some averages -- at least for the folks who've rated all four movies so far. Right now the lowest is 4.75 and the highest 6.50.

After each phase we should have an announcement on who is the fanboy and who is the hater (aka DC butthurt fanboy). 😆

So far I'm the lowest, but DCEU on average would be about a 2/10 right now, imo. Except for WW, that universe is garbage. It needs The Nolan.

Well it wasn't ever going to succeed with Zack Snyder in charge was it? Marvel are trying new up and coming directors. DC are using the same one over and over.

...and yet Wonder Woman was not directed by him and is considered the best one of them. Weird that.

Hmm, pie.

BTW, I gave Thor a 6/10.  You might have missed it since I didn't see this score in the table on the first page.

Oh thank you for pointing that out! Included now :)

I was only joshing. It’s a reference to the Honest Teaser for Batman v Superman. But agree, the DCEU (or the DEUCE as it prefers to be called) doesn’t hold a candle to the MCU and is pretty transparent in its rush to make Marvel-type money

Iron Man 2 - This felt a bit rushed or messy in its execution and failed to live up to original. One of the more forgettable MCU as some reason his villains are never that compelling. Not terrible, not great, sort of there
Score - 5/10

Thor

10!/10! :D

In seriousness this is a guilty pleasure for me with the characters, especially the Asgardians. I like Hemsworth for more than the obvious reasons and Hopkins was perfect as Odin. Jane was weak part, but didn't bother me much.
Score - 8/10

Amen to that!

Signature goes here!

Captain America: The First Avenger

Ok, I would say I'm giving a review of this movie, but it is more of a "gush".  I love this movie.  I'm giving my thoughts below and as always there are tons of spoilers so don't read if you haven't seen the movie.

Plusses:

Aristotle analyzed plays according to 6 characteristics.  (I minored in Theatre in college.  Don't judge. )  They are plot, character, theme, dialogue, music, and spectacle (i.e. special effects).  Captain Amercia does a great job at all six.  Here are some of the specifics.

Plot - This movie has me on the edge of my seat the whole time in that I just can't wait to see what happens next.  I love how Cap starts out a total shmuck and even is treated like a shmuck after his transformation.  By the end of the movie he is America's greatest hero.  He starts low, but rightfully earns the admiration that he eventually gets.  I also feel that Cap is in danger in so many places.  Even though he is "super" he can't fly and isn't invulnerable or anything like that.  For example, when cap is hanging on top of a tiny airplane/bomb you get the feeling he could die at any second.

Characters - The characters are great, because all of the acting is great.  Chris Evans embodies Captain America in every way.  Chris and Hadley Atwell have awesome chemistry.  Chris and Sebastian Stan also have great chemistry.  On top of it all it has two hugely awesome actors: Hugo Weaving and Tommy Lee Jones.  Each one of them steals every scene that they are in (and not just in this movie but any movie).  Just putting Hugo Weaving or Tommy Lee Jones in any movie is enough to make it awesome.  This movie has both and it wisely never puts them together in the same scene.

Theme - Captain America is a symbol, and in this movie he is the embodiment of a WW2 American soldier in every way.  Like I already said, he starts out a nobody and ends up a hero.  He also has the obvious traits like bravery and compassion.  He's unconventional and willing to do whatever it takes to succeed including disobeying orders.  (American troops in WW2 were known for being unconventional and pragmatic.)  But to top it all off in the end, he essentially "dies", because that is what a soldier does.  Soldier's sacrifice their lives to protect others, and that is exactly what Cap does.  He embodies the Super Soldier in every way.

Dialogue - This movie has awesome dialogue.  It has plenty of great funny moments with witty dialogue, but I also like that it uses "heightened language" kind of like Shakespeare.  Cap and Red Skull aren't just two dudes fighting.  They really represent two competing ideals, so the movie often uses heightened language instead of natural language (which is what Iron Man uses).  Some examples,

Red Skull: "Finish your mission doctor, before the American finishes his!"

AND

Red Skull: "What made you so special?"
Captain America: "Nothing.  I'm just a kid from Brooklyn."

and also lots of witty dialogue like

Cap: "I thought you were dead."
Bucky: "I thought you were smaller."

So much great dialogue, but I digress....

Music - That "Star Spangled Man" song is catchy and I can't get it out of my head.

Spectacle (i.e. special effects) - This is a super hero movie, so the action is great and fun.  However my favorite effects are the early wimpy Steve Rogers effects, because they are so convincing.  When I first saw this movie I thought that small Steve was the real actor and big Steve was the CGI.  That is pretty amazing stuff.

In conclusion, Captain America: The First Avenger is a fantastic movie in every way.  On top of that the MCU had put out a small string of "meh" movies, and this movie really pumped people up again just in time for Avengers release.  Although, in reality I think this movie is even better than the Avengers.

Final Score:  10/10

This is just a suggestion, but I think you should make an average score for each user in order to find the overall opinion each user has on the MCU.

I added in some averages -- at least for the folks who've rated all four movies so far. Right now the lowest is 4.75 and the highest 6.50.

Thanks for listening. It looks great!

OT: All scores updated to this point.

It's kind of amazing as I look down this list of movies, realizing that there's very few in there that I actually love. The MCU has gotten so big, and is universally regarded with so much acclaim, you'd think I'd be looking at every other movie on this list thinking "man I can't wait to watch that one again!" Yet here I am, scanning the list, wondering how much longer I gotta wait to get to the good stuff, and it's like "....wait....how much good stuff was there, really?" At least half these movies are mediocre, or forgettable, I'd say. I wonder if it's just the few of them that are great, are so widely loved, that people disregard how much of Marvel's content is ultimately unremarkable.

It's also possible I give them more credit than they deserve, because I think about Marvel Netflix shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Punisher, like ya Marvel are really on top of things.....but in the end that's rather separate from the movie universe they've established, from everything to management, themes, tone, etc. So one can't really view them as being part of a greater whole, no matter how many easter egg references they throw in there.
