Forums - General Discussion - "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."

Anybody who can reconcile the First Commandment with the existence of Jesus isn't going be swayed by any form of rational logic.

That statement is true of any religion where belief grants some form of after-life benefit.

The problem with the statement is that it is false when you take a basic understanding of what a all-loving, all-merciful, divine being would actually do to good people who simply didn't believe. It is incredibly stupid to think that a truly 'good' God would punish any human, regardless of their religious (this includes atheism) choice, who is a good person.

I don't have to believe Jesus is a part of God, or that Muhammad was the prophet of God, or that eating pork/beef is a sin, or that God even exists. All of that is non-sense when you truly break down the intent and idea behind God and any religion. What is important is how I treat the world around me. That pays off in-life and according to most major religions, after death as well.

No. If false it still has enormous importance/influence. Exhibit A: An insane percentage of American politicians.

Like it or not, christianity and its philosophy is one of the main pillars of western or at least european culture.

The negative influence religion has keeps human civilisation back, regardless if it's false

The quote assumes that if Christianity is true, people should give a shit.

Let's assume that it is for a moment, and let's assume when you die, you've got either heaven or hell from which to choose. Getting in to heaven means that you have to listen to a 'god' characterized in the bible as quite the capricious, malignant, self-absorbed, genocidal maniac who also happened to have a son that espoused some benevolent ideas.

Frankly, I'd pick hell. I want no part of a club whose leader is such a prick.

In which case, it's still of no importance to me if Christianity true.

The myth and lore is strikingly similar to those that came before it like the ancient Egyptian, Greek, Persian mythology and lore.

People need something to believe in. You have a choice. If you don't agree don't bother. That simple. Rotting in hell should be meaningless to you. God exist. Are the Christians right? Who knows....but let them be regardless. It shouldn't bother you.

Insert Coin. Press START. You Died. Continue?

There is logic behind the statement itself. The good thing here is that we're on the safe side since all the religions are canceling each other out and because of that it's pretty safe to say that none of them are true. Or at least not true in the way that each religion wants it to be true.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

My religion is the only true religion.
