Opinion on this quote by CS Lewis?

It's basing off of the idea that if God exists and what Christianity teaches is true, is the most important thing in life. Otherwise if there is no God then Christianity isn't important at all.

No, I don't agree, since even if Christianity is false, the influence it has had is immense.

Ultimately, that's true for every religion that claims to have control of our lives and afterlives.

However, there is a lot of leeway on either side--for instance, what if the bible is half true and half false?

Regardless, on the subject of christianity, the "either believe in me or I'll make you suffer eternally" threat is of personal importance. I'm hoping that's not true or that maybe god has matured a bit in the last several thousand years and is now kind of embarrassed he ever said something so petty.

Well given that God can't be measured or detected for some reason, (s)he can by definition have no impact on the Universe. So I guess the existence of God makes no different to anything.

I guess in my case it'd be... Shrug. Followed by: "so that's why the Universe exists, why does God exist?". In my opinion that's a far more mind-bending proposition than working out how the (basically mathematically constructed) Universe came to exist.

At least lots of nice art and music was inspired by religion.

I don't like it when people speak in absolutes about something that's too complex such as this. Christianity regardless if true or not, had alot of influence and importance in the world.

The problem is that Christianity is 100% based on faith in what people have written over thousand's of years, and has no actual, real proof.  There is not even proof that Jesus actually  existed, or lived.  Let alone of the virgin birth, rise from the dead, etc.. etc... 

The bible might as well say that My Little Pony is the risen savior. Not to say it's "not" true, but we honestly dont have any idea one way or the other.  The thing is, that christian morals are good, and if you live that life, you will be a good person.  So I choose to live that way, and "believe".  But I am not foolish enough to think it has any factual merit.  In fact, Egyptian Chronology, which does have actual physical evidence, tells us that the major events of the bible, are at least mis-dated, and possibly, if not likely, total fabrications.  

It's a difficult sell, that somehow millions of people have bought hook, line, and sinker.  

I could make up hundreds of things that would be important if they were true.

It's not a flaw, it's a condition made by the religion.

The bible is either fully false or partly false, it cannot be fully true though.

Also, Christianity whether false or true has been important for centuries, it has influenced millions and still does though it has arguably lost its importance in recent times ever since the world wars happened.
